View Full Version : I've made an important decision

The more I research it, the better I feel about the whole thing. Somehow, it just seems like the right thing to do.

The positive aspects FAR outweigh the negative, in my eyes.

Only negative thing so far - I have not mentioned it to my bf, and Im not sure how he will take it. Hes either going to be very supportive or he wont, in which case I dont need him. Regardless, Id rather have his support and know hes behind me.

My appt. to take tests and such is tomorrow. Ive already removed the piercings and such.

I guess its just waiting for things to come together, at this point.

Heh.
I didn't want to go into details, but to save some pride, Id like to know that the guy who keeps talking about buying me a ring is planning on doing just that, regardless of whether or not I see him every day, or just... not that often.

:(

Thats going to be the hardest part, for me.

Only piece of advice I can give you is when you fill out the paperwork, be specific on your field choice. Whatever you do, do not put down 'General' they'll whip your backside into Security Forces so fast your eyeballs won't stop spinning for a month.

Which branch Melo?
Idea about your field?
My advice in this thread (http://www.soonerfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107606&page=5) was USAF and nursing, x-ray tech, or something similar.

I put this in the youtube/video greatness thread I think, but it fits here:

Congratulations Melo. Not that it would matter much, but I'm pretty proud of you.

I think what you're doing is very courageous. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

Of course, nothing is final, yet. Im still in the process. I want to know a lot more about it first.

As for a specific career - at first, I was thinking journalism or still photography. The recruiter said that still photography is all contracted now, so thats out, for now. I was talking to my dad about it, though, and he said I should keep my mind open to other things, and see where I go with it. I have a vast interest in many things, plus Ive been doing leadership-type things for years (surprisingly?) so if I could do something with that, that might work.

I dont know. We will see. Im really excited about it.

I talked with the bf tonight, too. At first he told me he wasnt going to hold me back from something I wanted to do. I always tell him I wont ever be the one to stand in his way, tell him he cant or shouldnt do something, or be the one trying to change him. He reminded me of this and told me he would do the same for me. Then I asked him what he REALLY thought about it, how he felt about it. He told me he thought I should think more on it, to not just jump into it. He said it could go really well for me, or it could not go so well, and either way, I need to explore all of my options instead of just going with what seems great at the moment. But regardless, he said it would suck not seeing me, but he loves me 'to death' and he would support me fully.

:D

Melo,

If you haven't signed up yet consider the Coast Guard.
That way, if you fall overboard you can probably wade to shore.
Besides, they've got the best ditty (but only one band.)
http://www.uscg.mil/band/cgbandmedia.htm
Scroll down to Ceremonial music.

Seriously, since you can't follow Uncle Loyal's path into Armored Cavalry, the Coast Guard would be an excellent choice.

Best of luck and Semper Paratus! (Always Ready!)
