A winter storm warning remains in effect from 6 pm CST /7 pm EST/ this evening to 6 pm CST /7 pm EST/ Friday.
Highest storm total snowfall accumulations of 7 to 11 inches are expected from Gibson city to fowler Indiana with some locally higher amounts of around a foot possible. Snowfall amounts will be less further to the north and west with accumulations of 5 to 7 inches expected from Evanston to Morris to Pontiac.
A band of light to moderate snow has already developed from Romeoville on east toward midway airport. This snow is expected to slowly move northward with only light accumulations from a dusting up to a half inch possible. As the main storm system moves closer to the region...light snow will develop across northern Illinois and Indiana this afternoon. The heaviest snow will start later this evening after 6pm.
Additionally...east to northeast winds will be increasing during the period leading to blowing and drifting snow. The rush hour commute Friday morning will be adversely affected by these conditions as many roads by morning will be slick and hazardous. Snow will gradually begin tapering off to flurries by Friday afternoon as the system exits towards the northeast.

Pictures? Get busy people. I WANT TO SEE SOME FRICKING SNOW!

Okay, I'm calm now. I was so excited to see snow falling while I was in Oklahoma in December and it lasted all of about 30 minutes.

Was it not snot-freezing cold last week? Of course, yesterday morning, waiting for the train, the WC was pretty bad, too!

Last week was brutal...so was yesterday.

I will say, the nice thing about snow is that it is visible proof that it has warmed up enough to snow.

I used to read these threads and think "Jeez, a couple of inches of snow, big deal."

Then I thought about it. I guess a couple of inches of snow down there is roughly equivalent to a couple of feet here. First, everyone loses their damn minds on the roads, and second you don't have snow removal that's ready to deal with anything meaningful.

So, anyhow, have fun. We got a couple of inches last night here, too.

It's not the snow that's the problem IMO . . . its the ice.

Theres a cul-de-sac right across the road from me. The damn plows take all the snow from that way and push it up into my yard. My mailbox looks like its mounted on a pile of snow now.

Putting the trash out this week will be interesting, mainly due to the fact that the driveway is hardly any wider than my car.

Whet

Trash day was today and it was fun!

I cleared out an area next to the drive for the trash and recycle bins. The garbage truck was having a difficult time trying to negotiate the street.

Also, a couple of years ago, a snow plow took out my mailbox and pole. The village replaced in a couple of days though.....
