We just found a sh*t-ton of 'saffron' which is a spice from Iran and worth more than its weight in Gold. What does my wife do? Give it to the in laws

I wanted to take it to the Pawn Shop.

Just "found?"

Yes! in the back of the pantry. At least 50 grains of the stuff.

not all saffron is that expensive. there are expensive kinds, and cheaper kinds. if it came in a **** ton, it's probably the latter. the expensive kind comes in a thing that looks like a crack vial or plastic thimble.

I think it tastes just like saffron..................or chicken.

It's more about the color, than the taste.

Wouldn't it be a whole lot cheaper to use yellow food coloring then? :D

Oh Good God, that would have made a fine little addition to some cous cous and lamb. Also, if it doesn't come in package that just makes you angry as to how much it costs, it ain't primo saffron.

There's a faint fragrance and flavor in the stuff that is available at the stores. The really good stuff has a stronger smell and taste. That's what costs even more money.

We had 3 containers of it. One was a small "bubble" -like thimble thingy (like KC described), the other was a tube, like a small-film tube (clear), and the other was in a plastic case.

I can't help. I never cooked with it. But, I like the saffron rice served with yellow curry chicken and potatoes at the food court. That's pretty good.

It also comes mostly from Spain. It is the stigma from a crocus flower and they are all hand picked out of the flower after the flowers are picked in the field.
