I wish all of the scary people who put their linguistics-challenged spawn/grandspawn/whatever into commercials would just stop it. I want to claw my eyes out and stick sharpened pencils in my earholes when those spots come on.

"DED OWD BAMLY BID YOU BAMLY HOBE!!"

Except, Gibson Diffee gets a pass. BSG would kill me if my protestations somehow ended HIS career.

I think using wee children and wee dogs as props should be baned as well.

Pay absolutely no attention to the video on this link. Just listen to the audio.

I think Boarder did this once. Except his kids can actually speak English, and are cute.

I don't mind the kid in that 2-Sell-homes commercial. It's that annoying old lady that I want to shoot!

Jim Glover's daughter has a really annoying high pitched voice, but it helps that she is very easy on the eyes.

Some of you may have done this or may do this, but I dont let my kids do the answering machine message..much less would I put them on TV

Even though it may be cute to the parents, most people don't see it the same way no matter what they say to your face

Beyond that, clients voicing their own spots (not just letting their kids do it) is typically the kiss of death in advertising. Back when I was selling radio (yes, it was a long time ago, but no, I wasn't selling The Shadow or Amos n Andy), one of the biggest challenges was tactfully convincing clients to not voice their own spots.

Some want to save talent fees, although most stations will produce and provide non-specific talent for free. Some just want to feed their egos, or hear their kids, or whatever. They figure they're spending a bunch of money, so why not buy some celebrity status?

The problem is they almost always sound like amateurs (guess what -- they ARE amateurs), and it often turns off the customer, exactly the opposite of the intended effect. Sometimes you just can't talk them out of it, though. Then they get mad at you when the ad response sucks.

Boarder is an obvious exception to all of the above sentiments.

My dad has done some advertising work out of Oklahoma, and he says in general the talent just isn't there to do really top-quality commercials. Of course, I'll have to point him to our very own VK in the future. :)

Every other dealership has seemingly scrambled to put their own sweet young thing on camera since, as well.

OMG. Her hair bugs the crap out of me. She's actually got a really pretty face, but her horrid hairdos age her about 20 years. I watch those commercials and I'm thinking there's no way I'm gonna let this woman build me a house. It would probably be straight out of the 80s like her hair.

I saw the little girl in 1-800-2-Sell Homes commercial the other night... I honestly think she may be hearing impaired. In addition to the unintelligible speech, it looked like she was using sign language.

Could have been gang signs though; Grandma's put some sketchy looking characters in her other commercials.

I thought you could cuss if the story was of legitimate news value? Surely you can finagle your way around that.

There's nothing to link to, really. Just some random radio spots and a few corporate fliers/mailings. He let me listen to some of the tapes, though. Pretty funny stuff, in that sad "I live there now" kind of way. ;)

And VK, the reason it looks like she's using sign language is because apparently some ad genius told them that people would have an easier time remembering the number if the hold up the V-for-victory sign when they say the number "2." They do it in all of the commercials.
