decent actor and young.

Actor Heath Ledger has been found dead in a Manhattan apartment, New York police tell CNN.

according to IMDB, Batman is in post-production. So it should be fine, unless they needed to reshoot something I suppose.

Wasn't his biggest fan, but his portrayal of the Joker looked promising and it's always sad to see a life end at such a young age, especially since he had a young daughter.

really don't need to make any jokes. It's the primary film anyone who has done an AP writeup has mentioned for him because of the Oscar nomination. It'd have been more tasteful to mention the upcoming Batman movie imo, or more of his other previous films rather than the articles all focusing on one film.

I think it's probably pretty safe that the NYPD are giving the impression that it was some sort of prescription/sleeping pill overdose.

It's in post-production, so it's done with filming. He was shooting scenes for a different movie, though.

Well, while it's probably drugs or the typical stuff that kills young celebs, it's still a tragedy. Obviously talented, and always seemed like a decent guy when I saw him interviewed. Best wishes to his family and friends.

Anything offensive is gone. Wiki locks down pages of people who recently died to prevent vandalism. Whatever was up there was only up for an instant, because I visited that page a half hour ago, and then just now.

BTW, the apartment he was found in apparently belonged to Mary-Kate Olsen (http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/01/22/actor-heath-ledger-is-found-dead/index.html?hp). Weird.

Paul J. Browne, the Police Department’s deputy commissioner for public information, initially said that the apartment was owned by the actress Mary-Kate Olsen (http://movies.nytimes.com/person/126307/Mary-Kate-Olsen), but later reversed himself and said that was not the case.
A representative of Ms. Olsen said that the apartment did not belong to the actress. “It is not her apartment,” the representative, Annette Wolf, a publicist for Ms. Olsen, said in a phone interview. “She does not own the apartment. She has never owned the apartment. She and her sister have an apartment in New York City but they are not in this building.”

Post Production often means that there is still filming going on. It just means that principal photography has concluded.

Actors often overlap projects.

Still...this guy just became the latest generation's James Dean.

Anyone else see the correlation? All the way down to matching big gay films (Giant and Brokeback)? Both actors respected both for their talents and for their good looks? Both with tragic deaths?

I can see the new Boulevard of Broken Dreams now...

The latest generation's James Dean?

Clearly and admittedly, I have become an old man. I read his name today and immedeately thought "wasn't that the Ghey Cowboy?"

I wonder if that roll somehow changed him. That's a pretty strong typecast if you don't fit the part; pun not intended.

Why didn't Allan Melvin's passing make a splash? Geeze. This country has gone to the dogs.

He made a much better villan on The Andy Griffith Show than a butcher on that crappy Brady show.

Oh, no no no. That totally happens all the time. That's why conflicts arise. Now, Principal Photography is a trump card, but actors can overlap the beginning of one project with the re-shoots and pickups of another one that is in Post.

That's SOP.

According to the medical examiner's office, Ledger took "prescribed therapeutic doses ... or less" of each medication he ingested. However, the medications were not meant to be taken together. The cumulative effect was that the actor's brain stem function that controls breathing was impaired and Ledger "fell asleep and never woke up."

"While no medications were taken in excess, we learned today the combination of doctor-prescribed drugs proved lethal for our boy," Kim Ledger said. "Heath's accidental death serves as a caution to the hidden dangers of combining prescription medication, even at low dosage."
