I'm looking to get the ol' lady one for her birthday. (this Wednesday:eek:) Anyone know of a good one to look for under $300? We have a two year old daughter that will get most of the camera time, but it will do some football game duty come the fall as well :D. All of the digi cams I have used before seem to be useless for action shots since it takes two or three seconds from button press to actually take a picture, so I'd like to get one that can handle the fast paced action of Sooner football. Oh yeah, and all of the stuff that soon to be Mrs. mxATVracer will be taking pics of...

What says you SO? :pop:

Walmart has a kodak for around 250 that has good glass and fast response. 10 or 12 power optical zoom. Nice camera for the money.

i have a Cannon Proshot. (there are multiple modelss)

great cam but like you say, there is the action shot delaio, there is about a 1 second delay (for the auto focus). thus many 'missed' action shots for me! other wise i am pretty happy with it.

I know squat about cameras but I do know it's best not to call the love of your life, the ol' lady.
correct.

Women don't like being called old.

I stick with "ball and chain".

I got the Nikon Coolpix 7.1 megapixel digicam for my birthday not too long ago. I love this little camera. It takes GREAT photos, and the video capabilities aren't bad either. I think it was around $200

It's alright guys, she has yet to find out about the good times that can be had on SoonerFans.com :D (although it IS the homepage on our home computer )

Otherwise, I fully agree with your statement and stick with "sweetheart" ;)

Canon S5 IS. Lots of zoom (12x - great for sports), excellent optics, quick shutter response, vibration reduction, also takes movies, super easy to use.

Slightly over $300, but worth every penny. If you want to keep it under $300, you might be able to find one of its predecessors, the S2 IS or S3 IS.

TD2k, Brat, hows the shutter speed on the coolpix? I have seen that one in the weekly ads and it looks to be a good choice.

I need a new camera too. My 6 year old Canon 3mp "compact camera" takes pretty good pictures, but it's so darn bulky compared to the new cameras. And I paid $500 for it.

exactly, I gave about 500 for my old HP, and that thing is freakin HUGE compared to today's

Save yourself the disappointment of below average pictures and stay away from any Kodak brand camera. If you have the $$$ to invest in a DSLR do it. I have gone from having most of my pictures being mediocre to having 99% of them be excellent. The wife and I were so sick and tired of pictures of the kids turning out terrible that we finally made the jump.

I went with a Nikon 40Dx but Canon, Panasonic, and Sony make them as well. Pentax is also a decent brand for the budget conscience minded.

I agree with r5 on the DSLR - best pictures you can get. However if you want something that you can put in your pocket, this is not the choice.

I would recommend the Canon SD870 IS. We got one for my son for Christmas through Amazon and it was under $300 and takes very nice pictures. The people who are touting the dslr's aren't lying either...but they are not small cameras.

my granny has an older version of an "easy share" and she likes it because it's simple to use and she has the docking printer to easily and quickly print out the pics w/o having to use a computer
