No matter when I go to sleep, I wake up every night at 2am, 4am, 6am. I wake up, look at the clock and then go back to sleep. I never really have any trouble getting back to sleep, but I'm tired in the morning and I am tired in the afternoon because of it.

I started exersizing, which has helped me get to sleep better, and I cut off caffeine after 5pm.

What next?

If those few seconds are causing you to be tired in the afternoon, it's probably a tumor.

I've got a ****ing Chihuahua that wakes me up on about the same schedule. Be thankful you're not waking up to an over sized rat chewing on your earlobe.

It's not uncommon to wake frequently as long as you can go back to sleep.
You could get a sleep study done to see if anything else is going on.

Don't worry about it; you're on an even keel. Either that or you're alternate personality needs to go on guard duty.

I wonder if Herschel Walker does this

Just to see where this is going, I'll bite.

If you wake up multiple times in the night and have a large neck, then it's likely you have sleep apnea. Sleep centers measure your neck at the first visit.

What do they consider large?

Sounds silly, but the advice to get rid of the clock is a good idea. I bet most people wake up a few times during the night, but when you can look over each time and see what time it is, it makes your track it and become more aware of it and makes it seem like more of an issue.

I wake up too . . . but its usually to go pee.

Exactly. I keep my bedroom alarm clock in the kitchen pantry.

You know, 1 nanosecond before I clicked "Submit Reply", I realized I worded my respose poorly. The message just didn't get to my finger in time.

Ok ok ok ....geeeezzzz... don't GET RID of the clock, but put it somewhere you can't see it from the bed or turn it around backwards. It may take a few nights to get used to, but it works.

sb1960-I don't know. However, I know that I qualify with a 20" neck. I think anything above 18, but I could be wrong.

Chick has a good thought on not setting your clock where you can see it. If you can see the time it creates anxiety about not being able to sleep. I've slept better since I jury rigged my iPhone to be my alarm clock (sucker's LOUD!) because it automatically blanks the display after a minute or so.

yep, sleep apnea

i have it and sleep MUCH better now that i've gone thru all that goes with that

and i would say that sleep apnea really affects people with girth more than anybody else - hence the neck measurement

your neck circumference has VERY little to do with the actual sleep apnea itself.......the fat that creates it is another story

Strangely enough, even though I'm a prime candidate for sleep apnea and I DO wake up multiple times in the night, I actually don't HAVE sleep apnea. Went through a sleep study a couple of months ago and they basically said "Don't sleep on your back and you'll be OK."

Of course, now my neck is sore...

i am turning my clock around tonight. Every night i wake up and look at the clock, if it say 0100, i am thinking damn i have to get up in 3.5 hours, than i wake up and 0200, and think damn i have to get up in 2.5 hours, so on and so on.

I just took a lunesta, so i should sleep like a baby tonight.

I apparently have serious sleep apnea, and had 30+ apnea events per hour during my sleep study 7-8 years ago. I dropped a grand+ for a CPAP, and couldn't stand it. It's in my closet, and I snore away every night. That said, I rarely recall waking up at night, and generally feel pretty rested.

I'm guessing the people suggesting hiding the clock are on to something. I've heard that before, and it makes sense.

I will say that a few years ago when I dropped around 30 pounds I stopped snoring altogether. Unfortunately, I didn't keep it off. Weight is definitely a huge contributor to the apnea problem.

I've got a 17.5 inch neck, and I'm probably 40 pounds overweight. My dad has sleep apnea and he's got an extra cpap that I've tried sleeping with and it didn't really make any difference (except it dried my nose out)

Frozen Sooner

If it's drying you out, I don't think it's set correctly.

yeah, the sleep study determines what saturation rate you specifically need - everybody is different
