NORMAN — Former University of Oklahoma All-American Stacey King will become the fourth OU men’s basketball player to have his jersey honored when the Sooners host Texas Tech Saturday, Jan. 19, at 3 p.m. CST.

King, who starred in his No. 33 jersey for the Sooners from the 1985-86 through 1988-89 seasons, is Oklahoma’s fifth-leading all-time scorer and ranks seventh in rebounds and second in blocked shots. The left-handed center from Lawton, Okla., helped OU to the 1988 national championship game as a junior and earned consensus first-team All-America and Big Eight Player of the Year honors as a senior.

Playing under head coach Billy Tubbs, King finished his career by averaging 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots over his 114 games. He averaged 22.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.6 blocks as a junior, and 26.0 points, 10.1 boards and 2.3 rejections his final season. King is also the Sooners’ all-time postseason leader in games played (tied with Hollis Price at 12), points (246), scoring average (20.5) and rebounds (93).

The No. 6 overall pick in the 1989 NBA Draft, King went on to win three world championships with the Chicago Bulls. He is now a Bulls television analyst for Comcast SportsNet and also announces Big 12 Conference games for ESPN Regional (he is calling Saturday’s OU game versus the Red Raiders).

OU Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione will preside over a halftime ceremony that will see King join Wayman Tisdale, Alvan Adams and Mookie Blaylock as former Sooners to have their jersey honored. Tubbs and King will also address the crowd.
