View Full Version : Some thoughts, prayers and encouragement appreciated

Some of you may or may not know this, but OKC-SLC is my brother. He and my sister-in-law are having a baby soon. I believe the due date is mid February. The doctors have had some sort of concern today and they are keeping my sis-in-law at least overnight tonight. I'm hopeful that all will be okay, but I'm certain my bro would appreciate your thoughts and prayers. TIA

Mrs. OKC-SLC is doing fine, and the baby seems to be too. She's 35 weeks along. We have some tests which will be finished this evening, and I hope they're ok because if not she'll have a C-section tomorrow (which is too early). If the tests are ok, she'll be on bedrest and we'll try to push it to 37 weeks.

Thanks to y'all.

Her evening results came back and are in the middle--not necessarily severe enough to rush to delivery but not reassuring either. For those who know much about this (or have gone thru it) she has some features of preeclampsia but not enough to be a slamdunk decision to deliver right away. She still may have the C-S tomorrow, we'll see.

Thanks for all your thoughts, I really appreciate them.

Spoke to my mom a bit ago on the phone. Sounds like they're not gonna jump the gun with the c-section just yet. They are still monitoring my sis-in-law and the baby. Not sure if/when they'll make any decision. So the good news is they aren't having to deliver the baby yet, the bad news is that Mrs. OKC-SLC's blood pressure is higher than they'd like it to be.

Mrs. OKC-SLC does have preeclampsia. She and baby are stable, and labs are stable. Current plan is strict bedrest at the hospital and hold off C-S until the preeclampsia advances--the goal is to get her to 37 weeks, and she's at 35 (she won't make it to 37, we don't think; but every day matters for baby). She's staying at the hospital until she comes home with a baby. This would be easier if we didn't have a toddler, but family is here now to help.

Thanks guys. You're not a bad group for a bunch of Gooner Dirtburglars.

I talked to my brother today..the doctors are taking this one day at a time it seems. They continue tests on Mrs. OKC-SLC, and each day the test results are coming back a tad bit worse. (I think it's mainly the rise of protein levels in her blood or something like that.) OKC-SLC is a doctor himself, he could explain it much better than me if he gets on here tonight). It sounds like the C-Section will take place no later than Thursday. Thanks again for the support.

Mrs. OKC-SLC is still doing about the same. Bloodwork has revealed that her kidney function is being affected, and the plan is to do C-section before it's any worse. She hits 36 weeks on Thursday, so we'll do C-S then unless kidneys worse tomorrow.

Thanks again, guys.

Update: I haven't talked to my bro in a couple days, but my parents are up there in K.C. to help out and they called me today. The C-Section is scheduled for noon tomorrow. I won't be there, but I'm sure OKC-SLC or myself will have an update tomorrow afternoon at some point. Hopefully it will be all good news. They estimate the baby to be a big'n, probably around 9 or 10 pounds my bro told me the other night. A future Sooner defensive end possibly??

I know what you're going through. Way back in the 70's, I had Toxemia and Pre-eclampsia with my first baby. I was admitted into the hospital the day of my 5 month checkup. I was in the hospital for 2 months before my doctor had to preform an emergency C-Section. I was 7 months along to the day. 18 hours after his birth, my son weighed 3 lbs. and 15 oz. I took him home when he got up to 5 lbs.

He went on to be the top seed on his tennis team and graduated from OU with 2 degrees. I had a happy ending delivering much sooner and that happened when physicians had a lot less knowledge and equipment than they do today, so I have a real good feeling that everything will be okay. I will pray with all the hope I prayed with prior to my own child's birth. :)

My son Hayden was born at 12:24 p.m. this afternoon via C-section. He weighed in at 9 lbs 14 oz (at 36 weeks!). Mom and baby doing very well; they're planning to keep him in the NICU until at least tomorrow to watch him, but he's been doing well. Crabtree has him at 4 stars, but he's still got time to work on shuttle times and broadjump.

A tremendous outcome, and the second (and final) time I have had the pleasure of announcing the birth of a child on sf.com. Thanks to all you hillbillies for your kind thoughts, words, and prayers.

Mrs. OKC-SLC is doing well, with a bit more pain than with her previous C-Section ( http://www.soonerfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52241 ). Probably due to the polyhydramnios. Hayden is kicking a-- and taking names at the hospital. Eats well, breathing fine, blood sugars fine. He'll be ready to come home tomorrow, and teh wife will too if she's up for it.
