If I got a prescription for a child with any of these first names, I would automatically assume I was filling for a male child and put it in the computer that way.

Well, you said in thte spirit of the others, so in the spirit of dumb humor:
Gunnison = town in Colorado = Apsen
Chase = Pursuit
Preston = village in England = Devon
Gabrielle = Gabirelle Reece = Reece (I was reaching)
Priscilla = Elvis = Presley

Whatever the name you decide, look at the initials to ensure they don't spell anything that would be detrimental.....

Awww, I really didn't mean to offend, but for all of those names, I know boys, not girls who have them. Okay.... I don't know any Aspens, but for all of the rest, I know boys by those names.

Whatever happened to naming people fairly normal English names like John, Tom, Will, Sarah, Liz, etc.? Why do people name their kids Taylor and Cooper these days, whether they come out with a dick or a twat? I have a cousin that is a few days old named McAllister. I had to ask whether the baby was a guy or gal.

I will give credit for Aspen, but only because My daughter met a very nice girl named Aspen when we were in Katrina exile in OKC. Aspen is therefore OK.

Devon - Will people say DEVin or deVON? But not too bad.

Reece - as in Witherspoon and peanut butter and the guy who does CFB on ESPN.

My guess is the whole "last name as a first name" thing was traditionally common to WASPy types and southern aristocrats. The thing is, they were using actual family names. Practices among upper crusty types always eventually trickle down to the masses and become ubiquitous. Only now, people are just making stuff up.

Put me in the crotchedy old person camp on this along with TU. I like traditional names, or names that truly reflect one's heritage.

HB, you did ask for our opinion, so I'm gonna give it to you. Aspen sounds like someone's idea for a soap opera character gone horribly awry. Chase and Devon, as already indicated, porn actresses. Not even porn stars. B-Listers.

Wow, I feel like I just got a spanking after reading this.

The thing is, the middle names are already picked out for both a boy and a girl. They are old traditional names that come from each of our families. We didn't want to have both first and middle names in that category and make the kid sound like a senior citizen. And frankly, traditional names are boring. The wife and I both hate our names, our parents apparently didn't put much thought into them and just went with what was popular at the time. Believe me, we've probably overanalyzed this name thing for about 8 months now with many names that you guys would probably think were more appropriate disqualified for a mulitude of reasons.

Of course we also don't want the girl to sound like a porn queen either, but you guys all have dirty minds so I should have expected the connection to be made. :)

But you heartless bastards have helped some. The points about Aspen were well taken and that is now out. Maybe we'll rethink and come up with some more, maybe we won't, I'm not sure.

The point of this thread wasn't for you guys to name our kid, I think we can handle it. We're just getting excited and I wanted to share and use you guys as a sounding board to see what you thought. You didn't hurt my feelings or anything, and I appreciate the frank (very ****ing frank :)) discussion. But I do think that some of you should broaden your horizons just a little.

No, I'm pretty sure I won't think about pg hating some dude. We have however ruled out some good names because of people we've disliked in the past.

Considering the fact that that 3 out of my 4 of little granddaughters have last names for first names, I get a bit confused about names these days. Before I vote, and just so I understand; these are names for girls, no? :confused:

Aspen
Chase
Devon
Reece
Presley
Write in if it follows the spirit of the previous 5.You could go with Smith, Johnson, Jones and maybe Gomez.
