So for the past couple of years I have been bummed because my favorite little anglophile store on Classen closed. I used to go over there pretty regularly, because she also had a kitchen/tearoom setup, and I could get steak and kidney pie and whatnot.

Well, today I'm driving down May (around NW 30th), and see that THE STORE DIDN'T CLOSE, IT JUST RELOCATED!! What a dumbass I am. I went in, and she told me that she's been there for around two years. Duh.

Suffice to say, I can go back and load up on all sorts of great food items from the UK. Piccadilly meat pies, Walker's Crisps with weird flavor combinations, McVitie's digestives, Holmfield tarts...

Man, do I feel happy/stupid.

Oh, the disappointing part is that she no longer has a kitchen. NO MORE POTATO AND LEEK SOUP!

I knew this thread would have extremely narrow appeal.

I'll probably just lock this thread and continue to post in it by myself.

No fish and chips?

I haven't locked it yet, though. You people feel free to post in it.

Not anymore. THE KITCHEN IS CLOSED!!

BigRedJed
1/16/2008, 05:18 PM
I'm not sure they had F&C there before, anyway. They do have plenty of vinegar on the grocery shelves, though.

BigRedJed

KEEP 'EM COMING PEOPLE!

Right then, do try to keep a stiff upper lip!

BigRedJed

Dang it, you guys are throwing off my comedic timing. Let's try this: nobody post until I say it's OK.

BigRedJed
1/16/2008, 05:19 PM
OK, GO AHEAD AND POST!!

BigRedJed
1/16/2008, 05:20 PM
Well, that didn't work very well.

Oh sorry those were prepackaged, off the shelf British delicasies.

I'm a big fan of that place, Jeddediah.

I was sad when they nixed the kitchen at their new digs.

You people have obviously never experienced the greatness of Walker's prawn cocktail, tomato catsup or beefy onion flavored crisps.

BigRedJed

I knew I could count on Jimminy.

I'm going to have to go. When we were in Bermuda we had some pretty good candy that I haven't been able to find.

I think it's unfortunate that you chose to start this topic at the same time sicem inquired about marriage.

I always thought Canterbury was a bookstore.

I think they're at almost exactly the same latitude, they just moved from Classen to May. I get a little twitchy when I get west of Pennsylvania, so I guess I hadn't driven by there in a long time.

My work here is done. Pick up a Flaming Lips CD the next time you're in a record store, too.

Much obliged, sir.

I'm not sure if kidney pie causes kidney stones. But even if it does, if kidney pie is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I can't do kidney pie. Shepherd's pie is more my style. And banoffee pie. Mmm...

I need to go check that place out.

I'm with Jimminy on the pies. Kidney pie is blech.

It's against the law in Britain to wrap fish and chips in the traditional newspaper now. I didn't try to order it, but I was told this by a cab driver in London.

so where is this place exactly? It sounds like it's close to the neighborhood, but I can't recall ever going there and I would love to.

West side of May avenue, around NW 30th. There's a shady-looking used car lot on the north side of it, and a shady-looking Asian massage parlor on the south side.

Well I guess you can buy your British items there and then head over to Ingrid's.
