So the Mrs. and I are going to a black tie event representing my company. My understanding is that black tie means a tuxedo for men no matter what.

Is it going to be possible for me to rent a tux in OKC without it looking like a dummy? Is there anything that I should stay away from that will make it look obvious that the tux is rented (trendy stuff, cheap stuff, etc...) Anyone have any suggestions of nice rental places?

And yes, black tie means formal tuxedo.

I own mine. It was a great investment. I think I paid about $500 for the tux, tie, and shirt at a discount designer place. It probably saved me about $500 more in rentals.

You can probably buy one for what the rentals go for these days. Not a fancy one, but a tux nonetheless.

Anything like this should be fine.

Most people, esp hillbillies in OK probably rent, so you won't look too foolish. Go to a reputable place and rent something understated and elegant. Keep it clean and simple. Don't go too trendy. If you're good at knots get a real tie.

The Men's Warehouse site that SAS provided you can buy one for 160. http://www.menswearhouse.com/menswear/detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474395560566&FOLDER%3C%3EbrowsePath=1408474395560566&bmUID=1200069581832

I bet you could find one cheaper someplace else.

Plus, if you own your own, you are always set for the formal night on the cruise ship! ;) Dang airlines lost mine in my luggage and I never replaced it.

I agree with all this: buying is better. The cheap tux you buy is usually better quality and fit than the cheap tux you can rent.

Alway think classic not trendy.

Personally I would recommend a nice vest over a cumberbun, but I suppose that is strictly a matter of taste. And buy a descent set of links for the shirt.
