2008 Acura TSX

It will be much easier on my wallet at the gas pump than my '03 Toyota Tundra.

I'm trying to decide on a 2006 Acura RL or a 2008 Honda Accord V6 EX-L. I don't see much difference except in gas - premium vs. regular. Any comments?

You have to have premium gas in an Acura RL????

According to the info - yes...

I just went on Acura's website and it says that too for the TSX. But I have also heard that virtually no car needs Premium except for exotic high perf. cars like Lambroghini, etc.

I imagine these vehicles do fine on the hillbilly stuff.

This may be a marketing ploy to get one to think they're in a different class of consumer. Screw that.

We'll be able to hear VJ's car pinging from miles away

Well, the saleman told me the RL would work on Regular. Which I'm was thinking like you, but then, would this invalidate the warranty on the engine if there is a problem? It would seem to be a dillemma. prabably more likely require a fuel injector cleaning or fuel rail clean more often...

The Car Talk Guys, Click and Clack say that the cars run just fine on regular and you don't need the Ethyl. ;)

I think you only need the premium if you want to get the rated horsepower. You won't hurt anything with the cheap stuff because the engine computer will compensate so that you don't get any detonation.

That is what Click and Clack said, I couldn't remember the technical part. ;)

I wouldn't recommend putting 86/87 octane in your car. Most sites that discuss octane ratings say to use what your manual suggests, even if they are saying high octane is a waste. Manufacturers aren't so in cahoots with big oil as to sucker you into spending more on gas. Sportier engines burn hotter these days and require higher octane to reduce pinging. You could probably get away with 89/90, however.

I doubt they would be able to tell if you had been using regular, but who knows.

They would if you'd been getting detonation (pinging), but you won't so they can't. Probably.

I think the Smart Car will be a class upgrade from the Tata being discussed. Tata makes some bare boned vehicles. When I was in Qatar in December, most of the transport buses were Tata, instead of AC, they had small rotating fans installed through out the passenger section of the bus. The Qataris (who don't ride them) said they were cheap and a better margin for the tranport companies vs. the other coaches.

Well yes, if you take the car to the dealer to be fixed for what is caused by bad gas, then yeah, they would know you put the bad gas in it.
