Now that I have to do a lot more overnight traveling for my jobs, I have decided to upgrade from my Wal-Mart special suitcase I got as a graduation gift 7.75 years ago. What is a good durable brand of luggage to buy?

We have some Samonite, got it at Penneys when they had a big sale. I never realized everyone in the world had red luggage until we went to Vegas a couple of years ago.

Samsonite, Samsonite, Samsonite. Best combination of quality and price.

If you're transporting diamonds and gold bullion, then consider Tumi.

Tumi is good stuff, as to whether or not it's worth the money is another question. I have a Tumi carry on bag thing that is doing really well for the 3 years or so that I've been using it. I retired my last Samsonite suitcase after 8 years on the road (1 - 2 trips a month). I think it held up quite well.

If you travel by air and check your luggage, try tying a piece of ribbon or other item to the handle of your luggage. This will help you spot your stuff, as it is thrown on the conveyor belt at the airport.

However, if you are hair challenged, ensure it matches your shoes! (or, if the DW/DGF is traveling with you, it must match their hair!!

I swear to God, I was walking through the Miami airport a few years ago and a DC-10 was getting ready to load up for Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. At the gate, the people all had their worldly possessions in grocery store bags and garbage bags. There was not a single suitcase in the whole bunch of them.

Never been there, but I am wondering if the Port-Au-Prince airport even has a luggage carousel.
