Holding--Oklahoma Number 72
We won the Big 12 Championship--We reached our goal.
We are down by 5--let's go for 2!
We are only down by 5--let's go for the onside kick!
Holding--Oklahoma Number 79!
Sam Bradford looks dizzy.
I really like that coat!
Final?! What final?!
Pistols firing--touchdown cowboys!
And Reggie Smith fumbles the punt--turnover OU!
OU is heavily favored in this bowl game--it is a David and Goliath matchup.

I disagree with this one, not but one year ago people were asking why doesnt bob gamble anymore? It just didnt work out he didnt earn a rep as a gambling coach for nothing, if not i wish we would put the balls out there a little bit more.

if you guys werent around back in 2000 we practically made our living on gambling. It's kind of like going to the casino, just follow me here. It's seems to go well in the begginning you win money even the jackpot (2000) but when you keep going you're eventually goin to lose. You just have to get back in the saddle and keep truckin

I don't want to hear, "The other team seemed faster than OU". They weren't faster than we were last night, but they damned sure played faster. As seems to be a trend in recent bowl games, our poor preparation led to us looking more tentative and therefore "slower".

I disagree. That was an absolutely terrible time to gamble. We had all the momentum with two consecutive defensive stops and two consecutive offensive drives ending in score. If we would have been successful I would have been happy but still considered it a stupid call.

Sure, you have to gamble when it's unexpected and the onside kick was definitely unexpected but you have to be smart about it. Momentum is a huge factor in college football and you shouldn't just give it away like we did.

I'm not upset with the onside kick. We had momentum and bob was trying to captalize. He knew our D was struggling and that they would probably score again. It just didn't work out this time, but props for trying imo.

I agree. But the interesting thing about those "gambles" is that we did them to either GAIN momentum, or to put a team away. Yesterday, we already HAD the momentum, and we were no where near putting the game away. I love Bob, but that was just a dumb call.

Amen. 100%. I don't care if we recover it, it would STILL be a stupid call.

What happenned to the days where our coaching staff had faith in our defense? Inexcuseable.

Is there any doubt that the ENTIRE game changed when that little cute call didn't work?

Still fuming... :hot:

Could someone please explain why you wouldnt want to go for two while down by five? That kind of seems like no brainer, unless in the first quarter.

Because of the <50% success rate of going for 2 vs. the 99% for the kick. If you kick the ball and make it a 4 point game, then if you score a TD the opponent can only tie you with a field goal instead of beating you. If you don't get the 2 and the other guy then gets a FG, then you are down by 8 and forced to go for 2 again getting into that "chasing points" spiral. I agree with most experts that you only go for 2 when you can you can count remaining possessions that are left and you know the missed point won't bite you later.
