Makes it easy to hate UCLA.

The Pac 10 took him despite all the controversy at the Puffaloes and learned that his name is pronounced Newweasel. Looks like they didn't learn their lesson.

I have seen two pundits on ESPiN declare this a "good hire". WTF?

I think he was the only "name" coach willing to take the job for what the were willing to pay. In that case, I think it is a good hire for them. They weren't going to get any top level coach for that kind of money.

They should have gone after a solid Coord that can recruit - R English or the like. Of course, they really should have gone after Leach.

that's some pretty funny shizz here in Boulder. i've met Rick a couple times and he's pretty much convinced he's the smartest guy on planet earth.

Leach wouldn't go for the money they were willing to pay. They are a cheap program, like their coaches cheap. Neuheisel was looking for a redemption job, his alumni ties are what got it for him.

And yes, I realize that. By saying that they should have gone after Leach, I was saying that they should have ponied up the $. It's widespread knowledge that they didn't want to spend big.

I for one, hope Neuheisel is a big success. Especially in the area of recruiting (away from USC). Until there is a playoff system, there are only 2 slots in the MNC game and USC is a threat to get one of them every year as long as they own the SoCal recruiting region. UCLA has challenged 'SC during their stronger years for recruits as well as beating them on the field. Yet they never seem to be able to grab the brass ring. We need someone like that in the Pac10:cool:
