We have a tradition on our street - every year between Christmas and New Years' Day we get together and fry up a mess of turkeys. Everyone brings a side dish and some adult beverages and we have a damn good time all day long.

Tomorrow is the 2007 version and it's at my house tomorrow - got my turke fryer, my outdoor fire pit, a fridge full of beer and a full bottle of Knob Creek in addition to a freezer full of gin, vodka, tequila, and Hot Damn!

It oughta' be fun - if any of you hillbillys are in Ft Smith, come on by!

Heh Flag....

Have any of you seen the Mythbusters where they drop the turkey into the fryer from 5-10 feet in the air?

As I remember they drop a frozen one too.

I wouldn't want to be around the splash but the flame part really seemed to take some doing.

Make sure you have a lot of water nearby in case there is a fire!

We cooked a Turkey in a fryer on one of our hunting trips...

Later that night we poured the used peanut oil on the campfire.

I'm pretty sure you could see our campfire from space. :D

Well, we had a wonderful time - started the fire around noon and the first turkey breast was done by 1:00 - we cooked 4 turkeys, 3 hens, 1 turkey breast and 3 cornish game hens by about 5:00 p.m. Had about 20 people here at the most, and just got through cleaning the kitchen (thanks, SG06!). We burned the fire pit all day from noon unitl 10:00, ingested a lot of adult beverages and had a great time!

Will have a lot of clean-up in the garage tomorrow, but it was well worth it!

Oh, and no fires that we couldn't control!

what does a cornish game hen take to fry - 2 minutes?

Thanks for keeping us posted phead, I was wondering how the shindig went.

And now, I'll let SG06 comment on the festivities:

It was just wonderful! All the neighbors came over, young and old alike. All of the neighborhood kids came over and decorated the Kids Christmas tree with the ornaments that they made and painted a few weeks ago. I'm not sure who had a better time, the kids decorating the tree or the adults watching them.

The guys were drinking their drinks and smoking their cigars while the women were doing their typical talking and sharing of recipes. Kids running around all over the place, running through the leaves, riding their bikes and scooters and just enjoying being kids. Out of 9 kids there were only 2 girls ages 7 and 3. You can imagine the drama that took place with the girls being out numbered by the boys.

We had the fire pit going all afternoon and well into the evening. At one time we got some sticks and roasted marshmellows. Everyone enjoyed that immensely. I think most of us just about ate ourselves silly on the roasted marshmellows. It was great!

phead is very blessed and fortunate to have such amazing friends and neighbors. I'm glad I was able to be a part of something so special.

you are kidding me right? I guess you just have started out shaving scrotums. you want to limit razor contact...
Oh sorry. Nevermind.

Phead, I'm glad you guys had a great time and there were no major disasters. Did you wear full fireman garb while you were frying?

all true scrotum shavers use a classical straight razor and leather sharpening strap.
