WTF? why the hell would you put Nimoy in the movie and leave Shatner out? What is Abrams thinking? To see those two together again would bring herds of nerds to the theaters! Anyway, what do you geeks think about the new cast?

Everybody knows that Kirk dies in Generations. How the **** are are you going to fit an old *** Shatner into the movie with Kirk being dead?

Depends on the timeline involved. This is a prequel and there was a lot of time unexplored between the first of the TNG series and the Generations film in which he dies. It very well could be that he would fit within that time period before he died.

Christo, I got out of that Star Trek **** at 13 and it keeps sucking me back in.

Kirk is dead during the time between Generations and TNG. It would be very difficult to set it before Generations and after the time frame established by the series without really ****ing folks off. Ergo Kirk has to stay dead.

I don't know, it's science fiction, they can come up with SOMETHING! Maybe Spock is sick in his old age and is having hallucinations of Kirk, which sets up a flashback. Or what Sic 'em said. There's numerous ways to get him in if they wanted to, it wouldn't be that difficult.

Shoehorning Shatner in would be fanwanking at it's worst, and that's how we ended up with Nemesis.

Btw, just did some searching. Apparently Shatner has a new book out about how Spock and Kirk met (nice timing). I wonder if Shatner wanted the movie to be based off that or something...

yes, it would have to be an older fatter kirk. That's how hallucinations work, if Spock's hallucinations are of him still alive, kirk would need to be aged...

Your time frame is reversed. Generations came AFTER the end of the TNG series. The time period between the last of the original Star Trek movies and Generations is completely open.

Do you not remeber Kirk being sucked into the nexus at the commissioning of the Enterprise-B which effectively made Kirk disappear from 2293 to to 2371?

I think Sic 'em is talking about BEFORE he gets sucked into the nexus. sometime between ST6 and Generations (2293)

In Which Shatner has aged quite a bit, and would be still be fanwankery of the highest order if it were to be included.

Correct. I was always a Picard man though.

agreed, I'm just saying in science fiction, there is a way that would be as much fanwankery.

Fanwankery is what will destroy Trek. There is no need for it. I would prefer they left Nimoy out as well.

do you like the new cast or no opinion yet?

Its a movie based on flying through outer space at warp speed, yet the timeframe of whether kirk could be alive or not has to make sense?

TheUnnamedSooner
12/28/2007, 05:49 PM
Perhaps, but it will put people in the seats. I bet he's going to have a really small part.

Sic'em, you're too late.

I gotta say, I won't go see it without Kirk. I'm not one of those trekies but I do like Star Trek.

I would rank the Captains...

1) Picard
2) Kirk
3) Archer
4) Sisko
5) Sulu

6) Janeway

Archer? Was that in Star Trek: Quantum Leap? That series sucked. I'd put him at #5. Janeway not receiving votes.

Actually, for that matter, Sisko might be tied with Kirk, slightly behind Picard.

Move Janeway to #3 and you're on the money. I always thought that Janeway was hot in a step mother sort of way,

I think they should solve the problem by having the enterprise transported back to 1982 and they can have shatner as T.J. Hooker.

Star Trek needs to just stop making movies.

They need to take a five year hiatus and just come back with a kick-*** TV series (which is what ST does best) set in the post-DS9 era...with a starship in the Alpha Quadrant. It needs to be well conceived and well funded (unlike recent attempts). Fans would be hungry again after a half-decade of no Trek.

<uber nerd> It would also allow all the encyclopedias, DVD collections, and dictionaries to come up to speed <uber nerd>

Not a bad idea octavian. At the end of Enterprise til the time this movie comes out will be about 4-5years.

I am curious to see how this new movie turns out. Paramount has scrapped everyone that had any production with this movie, it may be a great thing and it may end the franchise. We shall see.
