Sooner fans return for Fiesta
Oklahoma fans will be gathering New Year's Day, the eve of the Fiesta Bowl, at the Tilted Kilt Pub, 7077 E. Bell Road. It's the same place that hosted local Sooner alumni for football games this fall.
The loyal Sooners have bought up the available tickets through the university and will flooding into town for the game, said Lindee Long of Scottsdale, a 1990 Oklahoma graduate and president of the local alumni association.
There are 300 alumni on the group's e-mail list and ten times that many in the Valley, she said.
Oklahoma fans are a little disappointed the team did not make it to New Orleans for the title game, Long said, but added that Scottsdale is far friendlier than the bayou.
"Louisiana was not very nice to us," she said of a previous visit to the Sugar Bowl.
The Sooner alumni leader said she does not expect much trouble between the Oklahoma and Oklahoma State fans in town. They are rivals on the field but fans from both schools will probably cheer for each other in their respective bowl games, she said.
