Is the old Blue-Gray Classic played in Alabama. It was players from teams not bowl eligible but I always enjoyed watching it on Christmas. It had some freaky rules and maybe wasn't the greatest game, but it was a family tradition to watch up until I was 15 or so.

Back in the mid to late 90s, it was nice to get to see some OU players in the postseason.

I definitely miss the Blue-Gray game on Christmas Day.
I also remember when the Fiesta Bowl used to be played on Christmas Day as well back in the late 1970s and a few other bowls played on the holiday in the '80s. I know this involves OSU, but perhaps the greatest Christmas Day bowl game of all time occurred exactly 20 years ago, when the Cowboys outlasted West Virginia 35-33 in the Sun Bowl, a game that was played in a blizzard. OSU had Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders and WV had several key players which a year later would play ND for the national title.
Christmas Day this year is going to be pretty boring not having any bowl games. And I could care less about the NBA. I would give up one of the two NBA games for one college bowl game for Christmas.

The Blue - Gray Game. Has it been discontinued? When?

Yep, Christmas Day is still Christmas, but it would be just a little better with a football game or 2.

Major Harris anyone? That was a really good game.

Major Harris was my favorite non OU player back then. I really thought he would win the heisman.

I remember being about 8 years old and watching the blue-gray game and there was a WR that I had never heard of that had a big game and really put him in the spotlight..a guy named Jerry Rice

I think it's great that the players have the chance of spending Christmas at home.

Bet you knew that was coming. :D

The thing I miss about the Blue-Gray is that it gave the kids who didn't get to a bowl game a chance to play again. It also gave some of the 1AA kids a chance to play against some of their 1A big brothers in front of NFL scouts. It was an opportunity for some of the little guys to get a look, and I liked that. I was also a big fan of the game back in the late-90s. It was the last opportunity to see some of our best players of the Smellsofbourbon and Blake era. It's an all-star game, so the kids could always deny it in favor of going home for Christmas. I can almost guarantee they would not, however. Once in a lifetime chance and all that.

I'd be happy with any football today. The NBA holds close to zero interest to me, but it does rank a freckle higher than soap operas. :)

No problemo. We just rename it the "Blue-Red" game.
