OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz announce the addition of former University of Oklahoma defensive back Jason Carter and former Oklahoma State University offensive guard Sam Mayes.

Carter (6’0, 200) was with the Sooners from 2003 – 2006 under Head Coach Bob Stoops. He was a member of the 2004 and 2006 Big 12 Championship teams and the Rose Bowl Championship team in 2003. He played in two national championships (2004 Sugar Bowl & 2005 Orange Bowl) and received his bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 2006.

Carter graduated from Jenks High School in Jenks, Oklahoma, where he was All-State and considered one of the best high school athletes in the nation.

Mayes (6’4, 350) is a former third team All-American and an AP All-Big 12 First Team selection for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He was invited to the mini-camp for the Cleveland Browns of the NFL in 2005.

Mayes spent 2000-2004 with the Cowboys under Head Coach Les Miles where he was considered the ‘anchor’ of the offensive line. He was listed as one of the preseason top 10 linemen in the country prior to his senior year and was a hardworking and talented athlete who became a key player in the Cowboys offense. Mayes is expected to be a critical component of the Yard Dawgz line in 2008.

Head Coach Gary Reasons is excited that Carter and Mayes are joining the franchise. “Jason and Sam are both tremendous players and each will play a significant role in our pursuit of a championship,” commented Reasons.

He had all the speed and athleticism in the world, just was never super-consistent for some reason in college. Good kid, tough deal... the AF2 paycheck is teh succ. Says a lot about his effort that he's making something like $200 a week to try and get better.

Was probably the best defensive back during his last 2 years at OU. Jenks kids are playmakers for the most part. He should have played more, but coaches went with Chijokes speed...ugh.
