I was leaning towards seeing it, but I haven't firmly decided yet.

Yes.

You think it will be 'take the wife, too' material, or is this a dude-flick?

Probably too much thinking for a chick to enjoy it. ;)

I plan to go. Hey, who cares if it has chick flick stuff in it-they blow up helicopters!

Yep, I'm salivating to see it. My roommate's girlfriend's parents were/are friends with the guy. I know very little about him, but I do know they asked him once why he was supporting the mujahadeen and he said something along the lines of, "Because I want to kill Russians -- As painfully as possible."

Just ignore it. It proves that you can be a Democrat AND a patriotic American. Not up your alley. ;)

The part of the ad that makes me cringe is when Julia Roberts says in that husky, Catherine Hepburn sounding voice "Oh, that Charlie"

Excellent movie. Hanks and Hoffman turn in great acting performances. Om Puri doies a good job as Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq. Julia Roberts is OK, but nothing special.

I was going to make a assexual sexual comment, but thought it best not to.

Now... let me finish my tequila sunrise and I just may make a assexual sexual comment later on.

Ya just never know....

it was pretty entertaining until the last 40 minutes featured a 20 minute extended montage reminiscent of a sports movie where the gutty, underdog team rallies behind the coach and wins a bunch of games in a row in which only a few "big" shots and scoreboard images are shown--except here it's afghani's shooting down Soviet aircraft. at this point, there's not any real narrative and a pretty conventional and kinda weak plot device. lampooned in Team America, for example.

agree about Hanks and Hoffman (who was also really good in the Devil knows you are there flick).
