Various organizations have named National Champions in college football since 1869. Utilizing the selectors as recognized by the NCAA, Oklahoma has been recognized for 16 different seasons: 2003, 2000, 1986, 1985, 1980, 1978, 1975, 1974, 1973, 1967, 1956, 1955, 1953, 1950 and 1949.

All you have to do is incorporate yourself, then you can have meetings, then you keep "minutes" in those meetings and have a lawyer sign it, and it's so official you can do anything you want. I've named battleships after ex-girlfriends, declared Nat'l Holidays, re-designed the flag, etc.

Gawd it is slow, is it still frozen over in Oklahoma?

There are some great teams on that list -- teams that never claimed a widely accepted NC. 1978, for example, which was probably Barry's best team.

Throughout the last half of this season, I heard a debate about the "best" team vs. the "most deserving" team for the BCS title game. My theory is that the debate was just cover so that the talking heads could ignore the on-field results and vote in their darlings -- USC and LSU.

But anyway, let's assume it was a legitimate debate? What has deserving got to do with it? 1978 was clearly deserving, but other teams were or seemed to be better. Tough tacos. Likewise, the 1985 team was the weakest of those three great mid-80s teams, but they got the rings. You could argue that the 74 squad was "undeserving" because they avoided a bowl game. Whatever. They were an awesome squad.

To answer the weather question, yes it's still icey in Oklahoma. Bush declared state of emergency. About 1/2 of the state is without power, they are saying 4-10 days to have everyone back on line. The area of Guthrie that I live in has not lost power. Our daughter and son-in-law are here because the sub-division they live in, in Norman, has been without power since Sunday night.
