View Full Version : Sharing my Cigar

So a group of friends and I went up and hit George's Bar tonight (famous bar in Waco populated mostly by Baylor folk). There were a group of chicks behind us who were celebrating the end of the semester since they were graduating. Anywhoo, this hot blonde chick taps me on the shoulder and asks if she can have the cigar I was smoking. I had another one so I gave her mine. Anywhoo, cute gal. I had fun. I ended up having a few drinks with them. If I'd been a bigger man then I may have gotten laid but alas...

I used to smoke them A LOT. Back in 95-96, I got into it heavily and went to the big smoke off that cigar aficionado puts on around 1996. I went to it for the next two years (LOTS of cigar give aways- I'd leave with about 50 freebies). By 99 it was too crowded and WAY too "fadish". I quit going and only indulge occasionally nowadays. The fad issues and the watering down of the stock were reasons enough not to smoke them so much anymore.

Did you never dated church school girls? Most of the ones that knew specialized in such things, first time away from the parents and all :D

I can relate about missing a "flirt" signal, my friends used to joke that I needed a flashing neon sign, directions and a road map to pick up on those when I was younger. I just thought they were being friendly but I sometimes found out later there was more to it.

My flirt radar got better as I got older, of course that may be another reason why I didn't get married until I was 39

Just because a few of you fagtastic bowtie and suspender wearing lawyers still think it's cool to own a $100 lighter to light your 50-cent cigars doesn't make it so.

Cigar smoking is like popped collars, hair perms for men, and droopy drawers. It was cool way back when, but ultimately the test of time pretty much proves it is stupid, looks stupid, smells stupid, and the people who do it reek of insecurity and a need to be noticed.

Don't get me wrong, I've had a cigar or 50 in my lifetime, but I don't sit around looking at Cigar Afficiando, and bragging about the Cuban cigars I've smuggled out of the Caribbean, and think that sitting with a bunch of other people in a cigar bar is one of the gayest things one can do.

Fortunately, the toadies who smoked em are now on to other fads (see.. jeans, striped shirts untucked, goofy lookin' shoes and hair spiked up).. since there's not as great a demand, the supply has decreased which results in quality going up. You can once again, smoke for the taste and relaxation.

Most cubans from the Caribbean are fakes. And Cigar Aficionado has pretty much gone the way of Wine Spectator.. more ads, less substance, both trying too hard to be the New Yorker.

Oh.. and aren't there things more gay than sitting around in a cigar bar?.. oh.. like.. combining firearms and alcohol and shootin' cats? :D

Here's the deal with cigars for me:

I'm a very intense and highly stressed individual. I get virtually no enjoyment out of the mundaneness of day to day activities. Several years ago my yankee friend from Boston turned me on to cigars late one night outside of our dorm building. From then on, I was hooked. Truly, there is nothing else that "relaxes" me in the evenings quite like a cigar and adult beverage do.

I also just flat out enjoy the cigar itself. It also fascinates me to think of all the work that went into producing each individual stick. When you think about how difficult it is to properly raise cigar tobacco (3 different types and often from 3 different regions!), to cure it, to ship it to the factory, and then someone has to hand roll each individual cigar before it's banded, boxed, and shipped out to me. It's really incredible that there's little to no automation involved in the process. Even harvesting the crop is done by hand because machines would tear the leaves and cigar leaf can't be torn (especially the wrapper).

Uh, you would wager wrong. Nearly all of the work has to be done by hand. There are exceptions. For example, there are these giant conveyer belt like machines in the fields that transport the leaf from the fields to the wherever they go next (I'm assuming the curing barns). The reason for that is to help prevent the leaf from splitting/breaking due to handling. So in that sense machines are used. But if you think there are giant *** harvesters rolling through the fields and that all cigars are machine made then you're wrong.

The cigars that are machine made are the cheapies and blunts you buy at the grocery store or the gas station.

Premium cigars are pretty tightly regulated by the industry. It's comparable to the way the wine industry regulates itself.

The occurrence of cancer among men who ONLY smoke cigars is very very low. You essentially would have to chain smoke them all day for an extended period of years to really raise the risk of lung cancer. I think mouth sores/cancer is a bigger concern than lung but even that's pretty low compared to cigarette smokers.

Truly, there is nothing else that "relaxes" me in the evenings quite like a cigar and adult beverage do.

Then you're doing it wrong.

even harvesting the crop is done by hand

Well yeah, but you just said you preferred cigars.

This pic reminds me of George's and the Big O. I used to call it fish bowl beer. It's good to see things haven't changed under and across the I-35.

Offer to take her to a basketball game.

Several years ago my yankee friend from Boston turned me on to cigars late one night outside of our dorm building. From then on, I was hooked. Truly, there is nothing else that "relaxes" me in the evenings quite like a cigar and adult beverage do. "Dear Penthouse Forum..."

eh, just let it go PG

we all have to just realize sicem needs to have his balls drop before he ever has a chance of getting any. His balls will never drops as long as he continues to coddle himself and hide from life.
