We just got a new (new to us) Yukon and it has the equipment for OnStar and I was wondering if it was worth the $12 a month (or whatever it actually costs).

Thanks.

You spent 43K on a Yukon but are complaining about $12 a month, Bruce? ;)

We have kept Onstar on both of our GM cars. The wife as used it twice, when she locked herself out of the car.

Onstar will notify authorities if your air bags deploy, or you can contact them if you have problems along the roadway - which you can also do with a cellphone.

With our current vehicles, Onstar sends us a monthly report on the status of specific items on the cars.

Is it worth it? We believe so, but that decision is up to you.

A word of caution: If you vehicle is a 2003 or earlier, the Onstar could be an analog system, which will require replacement to a digital system - if available. Onstar will upgrade it for $15 and a one-year subscription.
