For those that don't know, Tyler Florence is a chef on food network, he's been on about 10 years. He had a show tonight at the Riverwind Casino here in Norman, and my friend and I got tickets. Neither of us have been to the casino yet, so we went early so we could try one of the restaurants in the casino (disappointing to say the least) and then picked up our tickets. With our tickets, we received a "$10 free play" card, so before the show we decided to try our luck (read: lose our free money) on the slots. We found a couple of vacant machines and sat down, I crammed my card into the slot, and it quickly made grumbling noises, ate the card, and nothing happened on the machine. The "seasoned" casino regular next to me told me that the particular machine I was on did not take cards, and that my putting the card into the "money slot" wasn't the right thing to do. I had to call over security (I was totally embarrassed), and they had to disassemble the machine in order to do a "card retrieval". Apparently I'm not the first idiot to do such a thing, because they actually have "code words" for it! After getting my card back, I found another machine and quickly lost my "free $10".
We headed into the theater for the show, ready to see some Tyler cooking. Our seats were ok, but nothing spectacular. There were 4 round tables up ON the stage, and I couldn't help but notice one remained completely empty. Just before the show started they had a drawing, and were going to let the winner's party set at that table. Yeah, right, I never win these things. The very FIRST one they pulled out was Section 201, Row C, Seat 9...MINE!!!!!!!!!!!! We got to sit up on the stage!!!!!!!!! The show was great, Tyler was awesome, and we were served a 3 course dinner (our SECOND dinner, and MUCH better than the first) which included osso buco, squash risotto, and crepes with caramelized applies and candied pecans (HEAVEN). After the show Tyler stuck around for autographs and we rolled ourselves out to the car. It was a great time had by all. :)
