God has never spoken words to me, but He has neverthess answered my pleas, and many times made his presence and intent clearly apparent to me.

Reminds me of a little joke:

Farmer is stuck on his shed roof amid a flood.

Guy comes by in a boat and offers to rescue him.

Farmer says, "naw, the Lord will provide."

Guy comes by in helicopter and using the loudspeaker, offers to drop a basket and rescue him.

Farmer says, "naw, the Lord will provide."

Directly, the water tops the shed roof and farmer is swept away to his death.

Farmer gets to heaven and asks the first angel he encounters, "I've always been faithful. Why didn't the Lord provide in my hour of need?"
