Private donor to give away bowl tickets to OSU students

An anonymous donor is providing Oklahoma State students the opportunity to attend the Insight Bowl on Dec. 31 in Tempe, Ariz.

Students who buy a ticket will receive a second free to watch OSU play Indiana, OSU director of marketing Kyle Wray said Friday.

Tickets are $55 and will be available at the Boone Pickens Stadium south box office beginning Monday. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

OSU was allocated 10,500 tickets for the game. Wray said the school has sold around 4,000 of its allotment.

4000 out of 10500 - seems par for the course for osu.

Didn't this happen last year too?

I thought a program on the rise would have an excited fan base that would LOVE to see their team play.

Then I realized we're still talking about OSU.

Same thing happened last year with the "Anonymous Donor" (but we swear it's not Boone!) And then it turns out to be Boone. "We fooled you gooners! Yall didn't know it was Boone!"

They are all too busy admiring the nicest stadium in America to be bothered to attend a football game out of state.

They probably find it just as hard to GIVE away tickets as it is selling them :P

Hard for that to happen when so many of them are unemployed. :D

Sheesh, Mama. Can't you read? The article said they've sold 4,000 tickets so obviously all the OSU fans have already bought their tickets! ;)

They do this every time they go to a bowl game. Apparently their fan base is on the rise too.

I remember last year, OSU and KU finished 6-6 or bowl eligible. OSU got the nod to go to Shreveport over KU because OSU fans travel well. They had travelled all the way to Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Meanwhile, KU got no bowl trip because on their only trip which was to Orlando, only about 7000 tickets were sold at KU.
To keep up their reputation of travelling well, a booster gave away some 10,000 tickets to Shreveport last year. Now aggie finds out they have to go all the way to Arizona. Poor aggie.

sooner or later, t. boone's cash will run out. all he'll have left is a half empty stadium, nice facilities, and a crappy football team.

how exactly is him money changing things again????

OSU fans don't travel well because the farm animals can't go with them

Here's how it works... if your fanbase isn't willing to pay for the NFL network to watch the game, they're not willing to go to a sports bar that HAS the NFL network to watch their game, they're not willing to get a group of friends together for a game-watch party over the holidays to watch the game on said friend's NFL network... what makes you think those said fans are going to know anything more than how many times their pistols fire by the radio ******?

It won't be any different than when they do have their millions.

Hey man, the money is suppose to attract recruits to there program. ;)

If I were a recruit the facilities, etc. wouldn't matter to me that much, I would just want a school that is winning and offering good playing time.

Holder is the 'anonymous donor', not Boone.

They're student tickets... I don't see what the big deal is. Since the students can't walk 3 blocks to a basketball game I doubt they'll fly/drive to Tempe, so this might generate 2 or 3 hundred tickets at the most.

When did GIA become as empty as LNC?

When did GIA become as empty as LNC?

Midway through the 2005-2006ish season is when it really got rolling. When there are more than a few empty seats for the big games against teams that don't travel to Stillwater for basketball (UT, A&M, etc.), something ain't right.

It's not quite to LNC level... yet... but it's still pretty pathetic.

Raising student tickets to ~$550 doesn't help, either, when you're scrapping for NIT bids. Perhaps we should use the hot dog/t-shirt method to get some folks to come to the games. Although I think that's proven to be relatively ineffective.

I guess the osu people need somebody to take them to raise.
Have they no shame? :O
