Im sure the explanation for this has to be the guy got drunk with his friends the night before, and one of his friends made a stupid bet that if he lost, he would have to somehow find a way to say this in the game. Thats the only logical explanation

my apologies if this has been posted before.

That is weird because in Madden 99, I think, if you got a personal foul penalty, I swear the ref would say "he's givin' him the business" or "disturbing his business" something to that effect. Does anyone else remember this?

In the '80's an NFL ref said that on TV.

It looks like an homage to the old Jets game:

I have never heard a bette explaination for a flag being picked up than the one in 2000 at the KSU game. KSU gets a flag for an obvious holding call on a pass play. The referee walks over, picks up the flag, and states the following, "There is no flag on the play, the OU player fought through the infraction."

So, by this definition, if a player is being held he should just stop and fall down. Otherwise they arent calling it. I still get a little chuckle everytime I watch my tape of that game. Thank god it didnt make a difference in the outcome.

I remeber that guy, he's reffed some OU games. I still remember one of his calls. He got this look on his face like he was offended someone had dared to commit a foul while he was watching, and then he says "We got penalties on BOTH teams. So what we gonna do is offset 'em."

I hate to be a cold towel on the discussion (who am I kidding, I enjoy it), but I want the refs to take the game a little more seriously.

Well yeah. Cuz there's nothing more serious than a game.

I think it's awesome that the ref called the dude out for "Giving him the business."

I just think, in instances like that, the ref should've followed up with an explanation of just how, precisely, the player violated the "Giving of business" rule -- like they do sometimes when it's a somewhat obscure rule, or one which is open to interpretation. He could've said, for example, "He gave #13 the business, by telling two Your Momma's So Fat jokes to #13 - while we would've tolerated one Your Momma's So Fat jokes, two reaches the threshold needed for a giving of the business penalty."

Y'know. Something like that.
