How about this one? The lyrics are OBVIOUS, but the video has absolutely nothing to do with it. I always imagined this video resembling the "Angry Chair" video, but she's singing about "stick it in your vein" while she's hanging out on a bus next to an old lady.

One who affects some behaviour, style, attitude or other condition, often to impress or influence others.http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=poseur (http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=poseur)

poseur - a person who habitually pretends to be something he is not

A group of musicians, especially (a) wind and percussion players, or (b) rock musicians.

Hey, I never said I didn't like them. I liked quite a few of their songs. But I've enjoyed music from lots of poseur bands, starting with the Monkees.

STP tagged onto a scene that was already dead in its birthplace (which was far, far from STP's hometown), just as the sound of that scene was breaking huge all over the U.S. It was a calculating band that did EVERYTHING with an eye to selling records. Nothing wrong with that. They were good at it.

The Monkees were a creation of the TV industry, not an estalished recording act who got a TV show.

That distinction went to Sonny & Cher. :O

12/10/2007, 07:19 PM
I will hand it to STP for bringing in Paul Leary of The Butthole Surfers for some guitar work on Purple. But compared to a band like the Butthole's (who had much better stuff than just "Pepper"), STP seemed a little more created than creative.

Fast forward to the end for the Leary solo

Uh, I know full well that the Monkees had a completely different genesis than STP. Yes, they were totally a television creation, and yes, STP was an organically-formed band.

I wasn't really comparing them, other than to say that both bands created eminently listenable songs in commercially hot genres that they had no roots in, and had nothing to do with, besides copping the genre's sound and selling records.

Know how I know I'm old?

If any one of the bands/singers y'all are mentioning here came on the radio (other than The Monkees) I wouldn't be able to say "that's ................"

And this doesn't make me sad at all. Why? Because everyone knows that the best music in the history of music was put out during the 60's and 70's. It's the reason why there are "classic rock" stations in every town. You don't see a "classic rap" or "classic grunge" or "classic indy" station.

Carry on.

You don't see a "classic rap" or "classic grunge" or "classic indy" station.

it's coming faster than you think. Clear Channel will nail down those demographics, too. a lot of people working hard on just how to age-lifestyle-social economic status market to these people....once they figure out the advertising profile/revenue models.....you'll see it.

edit: advertisers have had a notoriously difficult time marketing to so-called Gen X but once you your mid 30's, it becomes a lot easier....car payments, having a job but "still being cool", kids and such....these are all marketable by conventional strategies....you'll just need Sonic Youth to sign over Teenage Riot to hum a little behind your investment portfolio ad, or the Pixies 'Gigantic' instead of 'London Calling' for Jaguar. feelies are in a Volvo commercial. it's coming (if it's not already here).

Actually, a lot of the grunge/alt rock stuff from the 90's is still very much on the radio, and some of it is creeping onto the classic rock stations.

I wouldn't argue about the best music coming from the 60's and 70's as a whole, but every decade since rock came around in the 50's has had something good to offer. This past decade... not so much, but there are still some diamonds in the poo here and there.

Oh I have no doubt some of it will make it's way onto satellite radio, etc., but I seriously doubt you'll ever see stations in every city dedicated to it.

Another indicator of the greatness that was 60's & 70's (and even some 80's) R&R is the popularity of stuff like Guitar Hero. All of my rap-listening kids (ages 15-26) have pretty much switched their radio station of choice to KRXO or BOB. It cracks me up because we'll be driving down the road and they'll go "turn it up" when a song comes on. They go "dad, this song rocks" and it'll be a Skynyrd tune or Sabbath or SRV. The older boys all have Zeppelin and other great R&R CDs, and they're really starting to warm up ol' dad's heart when they steal my blues CDs.

Having music that parents/kids can listen to together (without the parent having to act like they're 18 again) is a very cool thing. To me it shows that my kids are growing up.

Speaking of Zep, their recent concert was killer, from what I hear. Here's hoping they make some sort of North American tour.

Anyone wanna set the over/under for the cheapest tickets in the house for a Zeppelin tour? My guess would be $250. Assume a 20-25k seat venue (Bball arenas, etc.)

I don't care what it is, I'm going. I missed Page/Plant the last time around and with the life those dudes have lived, every second is borrowed time.

Plant sounds better there than he did on SRTS. Bonham sounds pretty good too. Page... not so much.
