My dad is on death's door at the hospital. He has lived a full life and at 90 years old, it looks like pnunomeia is gonna get the best of him.

The doctor's prognosis is not good, he's not expected to last much longer, I'm heading down to South Texas right now to comfort my mom.

I'll update when I can, but I'd appreciate any prayers heading our way.

UPDATE: Believe it, prayer works. He is still alive!! The doctor was very surprised. I spent the night with him in the hospital the night before last and so far, he has pulled through. That is the thing about my dad. Just when we think that he's a gonner, he somehow finds a way to hang in there.

He's not out of the woods yet, as we all know how these things go, he could take a turn for the worse at any time. But at the present time he is stable and in good condition. Most of the family is here and I think that this has also helped my dad.

He is more alert today and is trying to talk.

Last night he was stable enough to not have anyone stay there with him.

Thanks for all the prayers, good thoughts, and kind words. I will be staying down here for a short time to see what happens. I will continue to update his conditions. I would continue to appreciate any prayer given and once again thanks for all y'all have done.

UPDATE: The doctor tried to give dad some water today, but it caused him to aspirate.(Which means the water went down into his lungs and caused him to cough)
He also failed a swallow test today. They are going to be inserting a feeding tube in tomorrow. If his body rejects the feeding tube then it will be only a matter of time.
However, if his body accepts it, it could allow him to recover and therapy will help him be able to swallow in the near future.

We'll see how his body reacts to the feeding tube and I'll update when possible. Once again, thanks for all of the prayers, well wishes, and kind words.

Our prayers go out to you and your dad. Also sending one out to all our bothers and sisters caught out in this awful storm w/o power, water or phone. Hang in there and come on sunshine!

New Update: They inserted the feeding tube, but he developed irritation in his throat by the nurses suctioning out the mucas from there which started to bleed. The more they tried to suction out, the more he bled. He nearly drowned in his own blood. They had to do an emergency traceotonomy to allow air to get to his lungs and also to help drain the blood and mucas from his throat witout anymore irritation.

After this procedure yesterday, they moved him to ICU where he has been really weak. They finally started inserting food into the feeding tube this afternoon and it is our hope that he may regain his strength. His blood pressure has been really low and we fear that it may cause his organs to shut down before his body gets the proper nutrition from the feeding tube.

I'm hanging in there and we are ready for him to be at peace. If God decides to call him home, we'll be okay with that because it is for the better that he doesn't suffer anymore. I am trying to be the best comfort I can for my mom right now, she is really taking this pretty hard. It is killing all of us to see him suffer so much.

Thanks for the prayers, thoughts, and kind words.

My thoughts and prayers are with your dad and your family.

Sorry to hear about the complications he had to go through with the tube. Did they put the tube through his nose (a nasogastric tube) or through his abdomen (gastric tube)?

Nurses. I'm telling ya. You need to really keep an eye on them. Especially the ones out on the floor (the regular unit). Most of the ones in ICU are pretty good. Trust me. I know. I'm a medical professional. :D

They went through the abdomen.

Actually the nurses have done an excellent job working with him. They have been very patient with him and some of them have made the comment to us, that though they are not supposed to get attached to patients, that he is such a sweetheart that they couldn't help themselves not to get attached to him.

Even though they moved him to ICU, some of the nurses who worked on him while he was in a regular room have gone over to check up on him at ICU.
I'll assure you that he is in the best care possible with these nurses.

Latest Update: My dad has responded well to the feeding tube. His color is coming back and is finally more alert. He can't talk due to the tracheotomy that is still in his throat, but is hanging in there. He is doing so well, that the doctor has sent him to a rehabilitation hospital in Corpus Christi.

It looks like that he just might pull through all of this.

Keep those prayers heading up.

Thanks everyone.
