I smashed my finger in a door so bad that the fingernail turned black :eek:

This was last Wednesday.

The nail is still black a week later.

Will the fingernail eventually 'fall off' or what?

It may or may not fall off. Depends on how much damage to the nail/nailbed there is.

If it's not hurtin' don't bother. Without pressure, you won't even get to see blood spurt & stuff, so it's hardly worth it.

That nail is definitely going to come off.

Seriously, I wouldn't necessarily bother with poking a hole in it after this amount of time. It will come off when it comes off.
