So y'all may remember that a couple of years ago, my wifes mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. She went through a crapload of treatment, chemo and radiation, and as of this past summer, the docs were calling her 'cancer free'...whatever that means.
We were happy.
Well, the other day, we learn that a 'spot' on her lung that the docs previously believed to be scar tissue had grown in size. A PET scan apparently showed it to be metabolizing whatever it is that a PET scan scans. Which means that more than likely, the cancer is back. Apparently, we are told, that until a biopsy is done, it *could* be something as benign....like only bird flu. Somehow, that seems like a long shot. But we are going to hold out hope that it's something like that until we know better.
Anyway, she's not getting a biopsy until after the holidays, because she'd like to actually enjoy the holidays. The past two years, the holidays have been extremely stressful on her, largely because of the cloud of cancer that has hung over them. Unfortunately, now it is back, even if we don't really know what it is.
The even worse news, is apparently, she has had the maximum dose of radiation that the doctors feel comfortable giving to a person in her previous two bouts with cancer (the one I mentioned above, and the Hodgekins she had when she was pregnant with my wife). So that treatment option may be off the table.
Anyway, whatever spare thoughts of positivity and prayer any of y'all can direct toward my wife and her family would be greatly appreciated.
We hope all of you have a Merry Christmas, and we can't wait to get back to Oklahoma for the holidays.
