I've heard mixed reactions on these, but was wondering if anyone has a zune (video) player and how it compares to the ipod Nano. I'm looking to buy one or the other as a Christmas gift. Any suggestions or likes/dislikes you could share would help me out.

well, i have an ipod and my brother has a zune. the zune has a built in radio. my brother seems to have little or no problems with the zune. i like my ipod. no problems getting music. i have borrowed the zune and the sound seems to be a bit deeper. but you can buy any earphones. the zune is easier to hold on to, a little bigger.

i might be totally wrong, but i dont think a nano comes with video. I think you have to get the big one for that.

I've got a Zune and for the most part like it just fine. They just went through a major update for both the computer software and the device firmware which screwed up nearly everybody's files but the fixes weren't too painful. I think you can still find the original 30 gig model for about $100.00 which is a steal.

Given this new information, I'd go with the Zune.

jr4ou, you sure made me look foolish. ;)
Personally, I watch videos on a device called a television.

Instead of buying the 8G iPod Video Nano, you could spend $40 more and get a 80G iPod Video Classic. That would be the way to go, imo.

Of course, I just opted to buy the iPod Touch.

I have a Zune and I really like it. I bought an original one, brown for 99.00. I knew I didnt want to spend 250.00, but 99.00 was an easy decision. I have about 18GB of music I ripped from my cd collection, and some videos of my daughter and a couple of SNL and Chappelle videos on it right now.

the software is not the best in the world, but it works and I have yet to have any issues with something not syncing...after 1 or 2 attempts. I have succesfully done the registry change to make it show up as an external drive as well, which is another complaint.

I'm pretty certain that iTunes has a better selection of stuff to buy, especially the video. Zune marketplace pretty much has music videos and thats it right now for video, and they have lots of music obviously, where iTunes has television shows and stuff you can purchase.

If money is no object and you see yourself using it to watch a lot of video stuff, then the IPOD would be the way to go. If you are like me and you just want a 30GB music player and you will dink with the video a little then the 99.00 original Zunes are a bargain.

Last I saw, Circuit City had the 99.00 brown Zune, or sometimes you can catch them for limited time on like Amazon.
