Da kine dat get you high-fiving the fans all around you...

Mine, in no particular order:

George Cumby on Earl Campbell (the hit knocked GC out cold) -
Cumby was described by then-head coach Barry Switzer as "the only person I know who could go one-on-one with Earl Campbell and knock him backwards." He finished his career at Oklahoma with 405 career tackles, placing him fifth on the all-time list.

Scott Hill on Tony Dorsett -

Auston English on Colt (just because)

Lewis Baker on Jeremy Maclin (could easily have been a penalty, scary missile) -

I remember Scott Case laying the wood in a number of hits. Anyone remember him? Good player. Hard hitter.

I recall that Tony Dorsett, when speaking about Hill's hit, said something about there being "sooner bodies falling from the sky."

That is not only the best hit in Sooner football history; it has to be the top 5 of all time college football hits.

Definitely the Superman from TRRW. Amazing game changing play. I'm still in awe.

With all due respect, the "superman" award has to go to the Tony Dorsett hit. The hit on crissy was definitely game changing tho.

I believe it was 1990 under Gibbs the one time OU beat Neb. Someone flat out demolished a Neb RB/TE after a screen pass and he fumbled, I think by Reggie Barnes. If I remember right the whole game momentum pretty well turned on that hit.

About half of Bosworth's 144 takles in 1985. Dude was a head hunter.

I'd have to go with Darius Johnson's 2 "headhunter" type hits against Ttech in the 1993 Hancock Bowl/Sun Bowl (I'm pretty sure it was the Hancock Bowl in the early 90's). Aside from that, anything involving the real Roy Williams or Tommie Harris will do.

Great post. That was my freshman year and I was sitting in the student section right above where that play happened. We kicked their butts that day.

David "Hit Man" Vickers had a great one against Nebraska late in the 1987 game, I believe. Not bad for a QB reject! That dude threw his whole body at the runner.

The best part about Reggie Barnes hit on Nikki Fisher for Nebraska in 1990 was how he just stood there over him celebrating while Frank Blevins scooped the ball up!

When Boz tackled the Texas QB on the reverse attempt to Eric Metcalf was pretty sweet, too!

And it wasn't the hardest hit, but Rocky's hit on Weinke in the Orange Bowl sure was a memorable one for what happened shortly thereafter!

That was my first OU/Texas game to attend my freshman year. So glad I found a ticket the day before (in math class :P ).

Years ago he was at a card show at the Fairgrounds in Tulsa signing autographs. My youngest son about 15/16 at the time and I attended, and when we got ready to leave low a behold guess who's walking out right beside me---ole Tony. Some vender he apparently knew yelled something at him about being in OKla. AS I put my hand on his shoulder (damn he was solid) I spoke up and said "Well there's one Sooner he'll never forget Scott Hill" He kinda laugh and turn to me an said "I think I made him famous" afterwards when I thought about what I'd done I was glad he didn't deck me. Thing is I couldn't find my son anywhere until I got nearly outside the bldg. I said where in the heck did you go. He smiles and said "Ithought hell your going to get decked so I took off.LOL

Stoops era hits:

Rocky Calmus on Chris Weinke = game changer. End result = Q walks in for a draw-play TD to ice the National Championship.

TRRW on Chrissy Simms = Instant classic.

Rufus Alexander hammering TU's tight end in 2005... knocked Mills TFO.

Mark Clayton lowering the boom on the Sand Aggie in 2004.

AD lowering the boom on Michael Huff, knocking him to his arse whilst AD kept stride and leaned forward for extra yardage. Pwnage if I'd ever seen it.

Lewis Baker hitting the Boise State kick returner on the final kickoff in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl.

Joe Jon Finley throwing a shoulder into Orlandis King and uprooting the mofo three in the air as he fell on his back, clearing the way for an AD to score a 67-yard TD reception.

Dan Cody hitting that little 'hero' Josh Fields to open the 2003 Bed-dumb game. Cocky little dork kept his mouth shut all game after that one.

Pretty much every hit Ontei Jones delivered in the 2001 Orange Bowl was perfectly timed and bone-crunching from a spectator standpoint.

The hardest hit Scott Hill ever made was on a Missouri kickoff return man in the cold rain in 1974. Knocked the Missouri guy out and almost did the same to Scott.

I concur. Absolutely awesome list by GO8. The Joe Jon hit to spring AD against UAB was amazing.

Ontei Jones is one of those nearly forgotten badazzes that sacrificed his body to level people.

Thanks for the list, GO8, lots of great moments in Sooner History.

goe,

I thought that hit was on Tarrion Adams, their RB.

I could be wrong, but that's who I was thinking it was.

Fave Sooner Hits would have to include: "Don't Send My Boy to Texas", "Oklahoma", "Boomer Sooner", " 24 Hours from Tulsa", and "Take Me Back to Tulsa".

If you are new to this thread, I don't want you to miss this glorious link provided by Seamus, my new most favorite person in the whole wide world.:O

And even if you've already seen it once, go ahead . . . have another look (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UEZLNlyRSk). This time, listen to the crowd when Clayton lowers to boom.

Pound for pound, that has to rank in the top 3 all time best Sooner hits.

I still would rank Hill's hit as the tops because of the sheer audacity/spectacle of how early he leaves his feet. At the time Hill launches, Dorsett is still about 8 yards away.
