Kinda seems odd to me they didn't choose some kind of LDS theme...but hey, that's just me.

Anyhoo, next up...

That's the one I voted for.

i think i did too. it seemed less cluttered. and the scissor-tail is a great bird.

my first vote would have been the Cherokee alphabet, but prolly too "political".

The mint has issued five per year since 1999. The quarters are issued in order of statehood. Thus, OUr state quarter will be the first one of 2008, followed by NM, AZ, AK and HI to complete the most popular commemorative series in US numismatic history.

I still wish we had Will Rogers on ours.

I can't see how all that Grand Canyon-y detail won't be lost when the AZ design is reduced to quarter size. Simple is better on coins IMHO.

In addition to OUrs, the HI and NM ones are pretty spiffy.

I think the Utah one is one of the better ones. And yeah, the AZ one is ridiculous.

I thought our quarter should have had the land run on it.

Me too. It should have had a reproduction of this picture on it...

Land Run bad. Not PC. For that matter, I wanted it to say The Sooner State, but that would have alienated too many pokies.:(

Arizona coin is about tourism and marketing. not state history.

Abe Lincoln is hella more better looking and heroic and less bald on the newer 5 dollar bills than the old ones.

There were some who said Statehood Day was bad too but it is our history. In protest they should have shut down all the casinos for the day. :D

Last time I looked it was the Sooner State and not the Cowboy State.

Poor New Hampshire.

There state quarter design doesn't even exist anymore.

http://www.usmint.gov/images/mint_programs/50sq_program/states/NH_winner.gif

The New Hampshire quarter, the ninth coin released under the 50 State Quarters® Program, honors one of the state's most unique natural attractions, "The Old Man of the Mountain." The state motto, "Live free or die," and nine stars, signifying the fact that New Hampshire was the ninth state to ratify the Constitution, complete the design.

"The Old Man of the Mountain" was a distinctive rock formation on Mt. Cannon in the Franconia Notch gateway to northern New Hampshire. From the right view, this unique rock formation -- comprised of five layers of Conway red granite -- depicted the distinct profile of an elderly man gazing eastward. Geographers believe that the layers of granite were formed by the melting and slipping away action of an ice sheet that covered the Franconia Mountains at the end of the glacial period 2,000 to 10,000 years ago. Until it crumbled in early 2003, the formation measured over 40 feet high with a lateral distance of 25 feet.

That does succs for them. I wonder if there's a state quarter curse or sumpin? Could this mean the scissortail will go extinct?;)

Frickin' Palin.

She's done a stellar job so far, but I'm annoyed at her for deciding the state quarter design by polling a bunch of sixth-graders.

Do something that's completely identified with the state-perhaps a dog sled and team, or something about mineral wealth, or whatever. The dang quarter looks like it should be Montana's design.

I dunno. That design looks a WHOLE lot like what we ran into on the Kenai back in June. Friggin bear caught more than all the boats in our area put together.

Heh. Shoulda called me. I'd have set you up with a guide that'd guarantee you some fish.

Fishing one of his spots once I got a strike that flattened the bearings and snapped the wormgear in half on a brand-new Shimano. MFer must have been at LEAST 90.

I'd have been surprised, reason being that absolutely nobody was catching anything other than a very occasional red. We saw maybe, & I mean MAYBE, 3-4 kings caught from other boats for the entire week, & when we talked to a guy from the Fish & Game, we found out why. He said that normally, the electric eye at the mouth of the river records around 1,000 a day coming upstream, & at that time, they were having to hurry to get 150-200 in a day. The Kings were in between runs when we were there. If we hadn't booked a fly in on Big River Lake & caught a bunch of reds, we'd have struck out royally. We WILL be going back to July when we go back in '09 (couldn't reel 'em in fast enough when we were there back in 7-05. All six guys that took us out said that that'd be the time they'd come up if they were us.)

BTW, it only hit me after we got up there, but I did try to look you up, but didn't see you in the book. Closest thing I saw was a Mike Richland. Will try to remember next time.
