Maybe a stupid question, but what's the background made out of? mulch? I really can't tell. And since I am definitely not a botanist or a horticulturist, I have no idea what plant would be gray. This has to be a really easy answer and I am trying to make it too difficult

I'm pretty sure the background is some dirt/mulch mix, more dirt than mulch.

I think after the OSU game, or possibly before a little before then, they pull up the plants and leave them there for a few days for whoever wants to come take them.

You had a chance to have a little bit of the South Oval at your house for free!
