True, the really frustrating thing is the lack of a concerted effort to get points inside.

the problem is its hard to get points inside when USC is packing the paint and double teaming everytime the ball comes in the post.

Yeah, we just seem to have no imagination.

That said, SUC is loaded with NBA players, and they aren't exactly burning the place down with inside thunder.

SoonerBOI
11/29/2007, 11:33 PM

OKC-SLC

Oh great, now B. Griffin thinks HE'S the three point specialist. Airball.

good point, but we just saw a couple possessions ago what our motion can do to disrupt that zone and open up the paint. Problem is, there was no option down low after the initial post up.

THat's my problem, you can do more than drive from the top of the key and entry passes to the post to get inside points.

OKC-SLC

Ash

Another thing I'd like to see, is the team crash the boards. After a missed shot there's one guy down there battling four SC players.

OKC-SLC
11/29/2007, 11:40 PM
Someone seriously tell me if having Longar jack 15 footers was part of our offensive game plan. Because the kid's barely drawing iron on the three I can think of this game.

There is absolutely no reason for SUC to foul us--let us shoot it wide open. Aw hell, foul us. That way SUC gets to get in position for the rebound.

A few people cheer when their team does well, but the whole crowd erupts when BG airballs the 3.

In fact, they don't seem to know when to cheer or really have the desire. Typical SoCal crowd. They'll all be gone about 5:00 minutes into the second half to "beat the traffic."

we are a bad shooting team. we have been for two years at least. a hot night for us is about 48% from the floor. we also uncork the old 34% night (often on the road).

i just looked at the box score....just home and turned on the game with about 13 minutes left.....what a trainwreck. 5/11 from the stripe.

we must have shot horribly in the first half. but, that's a typical OU loss. shoot like crap, dig a hole fight and stay in it....but never really get over the hump.

Most disappointing about this game is that the scrappy rebounding and D weren't there the whole game. When shots aren't falling that's what you can fall back on to win games.

Most disappointing about this game is that the scrappy rebounding and D weren't there the whole game. When shots aren't falling that's what you can fall back on to win games.

seems like we fall back on that ALOT. actually it seems like it happens every time we play a "good" team.

oh well, we're still really young and it's a long season.

I'm not sure if Capel is capable of coaching a good offense. His offenses worked in the CAA scoring around 75 a game but against good teams OU's not going to score at all. They don't set picks, they don't really try and get open shooters all they try and do is run around get shoot open jumpers that aren't high %. If we score on a good team it'll be because we are hot that night not because we have better players.

why is it when we have nobody who can shoot the three, and we take like 50 three point shots and make 3 of them. I was frustrated but I was asleep before it was over.

Um...I tried to watch, but it seems Capel hired Kelvin's offensive coordinator.

Give me a run and gun team that might lose some games to superior talent, but entertain me. I couldn't watch it...boring as hell. Hoops is not a "defense first" sport. It is score more points.

Call it a glass half-full post if you want but I can see this team being much better come Fub and March. The outside shooting needs to improve...a lot but this is a pretty young team making a number of mistakes that are correctable. Athletically we are a big step up from last year. Too many turnovers but a lot of teams look sloppy in November and early December.

I think the offense will improve as the year goes on and the effort is there on defense. Don't get me wrong I don't see us as a top 25 caliber team but I can see us making a tourney push later in the year.

anyone *expecting* this to be an NCAA team is in left-field. it could happen, but i think we're a lot like last year but a little better when it's all said and done. we're an NIT type team in a down year in conference.

additionally, when it's all said in done USC could turn out to be a pretty good team, 4-5 seed type.

now, 08-09 and thereafter i think we can have some justified expectations.

It is hard to watch this team right now, even though they have potential. The killer thing is, last year we had a wonderful 3-point threat in Neal but nobody good down low to take pressure off of him. Now we have a sick inside threat in Blake and no 3-point threat to take advantage of it.

This is completely different from Kelvin. Kelvin's offenses usually went to a central piece. Ryan Minor, Corey Brewer, Najera, Nolan Johnson, Price and McGee, Taj, whoever that central part was we kept feeding it. Sometimes they weren't hot there so our offense didn't look good. But we know the identity of most of the offenses. The only exception was the year we had all those injuries in 2004. But they usually went to whoever was hot or the best scorer and kept feeding them the ball. We don't really have that guy right now and don't really try and use a guy like that.

The conference will only get better the next couple of years. I'm not sure if OU will though.

I don't see how you can write the future of the team off like that. They just brought in a top 20 recruiting class. Those guys are young, though, and as this year progresses and going into next season I think there's going to be considerable improvement. Add to that this years incoming class, with Willie Warren - who is big time, and who is a scorer (just what we need).

I think Capel's teams are going to get better and the future still looks bright.

I don't know anything about our recruits but the system that we have right now needs 3 or 4 guys that can just score. It doesn't look like they have any roles even if they aren't great scorers like under Kelvin. I'm not sure if that will work with what we have right now and the next couple. It would have to be a lot of talent coming in. Yes we get a highly touted player like Warren but is that going to be enough? I doubt it. It may be a while before we have the offensive talent that Capel wants to run with here. We never had it under Kelvin except for one or two years.

compared to OU, OSU, UT, KU of the early 00's, where are the marquee teams? any Final Four teams? Marquee players like Price, Durant, TJ Ford, Hinrich, Collision, Acie Law etc. truth is the conference will be competitive in conference but middling with parity IMO. ATM has a chance to challenge KU, but what else?

i see a lot of teams with 35-60 rpi's battling to be 9-7 in conference and usually holding serve at home, dropping roadies.

frickin Colorado of 02 or 03 with Morandais and David Harrison could go 11-5 or 12-4 in this year's Big XII....4 or 5 seed.

you mean like how Kelvin kept feeding Taj in the last 10 minutes of the debacle against West Virginia in the All-College? you know after WVU could not stop him (nor were they ever going to) and we pulled within 6 and then he never saw the ball again. and Kelvin blasted him in the DO the next day saying the front of the jersey doesn't say Taj Gray?

I'm calling my shot right now.

Big 12 teams go no better than .500 vs. other Big 12 teams.

We were in enough trouble in this game before Crocker started talking smack to Mayo.

This game was hella hard to watch (except when we went on that run to cut it to 4). This Sooner team needs a true point guard and a slasher/creator on offense. I sure hope someone will step up and make that happen.
