Sure - you're a fan, but did you play ball in school?

I'll start ---> :O

I tried out for the team in the 8th grade and since I hadn't played in the 7th grade I didn't know any of the plays and I didn't know WTF "blue 14" WAS and the coach wouldn't take the time to tell me.

So I ended up running track. :D

Also - took up drums the same year and wound up in the drum line and played all thru college.

In short - if someone asked me to pass a ball,
I would tell you I can't even swallow it. :O :O

Next! :pop:

I was a "darn good" nose guard and OT in 7th Grade, but gave it up due to a physical condition that brother bri once as described as "being a tremendous p****." :D
<Begin philosophical digression.>
Actually, if someone had told me I was "darn good" BEFORE I quit, I might have done differently. But that was back in the day when coaches thought that if you weren't in fear and misery, you weren't trying hard enough. And ("being a tremendous p****") I failed to respond as expected. That's why I have always encouraged my own kids and the kids I have coached. Why give them reasons to quit when you can give them reasons to continue ? Call it a lesson learned by experience.
<End philosophical digression.>

Started out in little leauge. In JH I played on both sides of the ball. Center, linebacker, and DE. Went into marching band in HS. After football season my JR year, came back to football as WR. Didn't realize I needed to work out during the summer. When summer practice started, I was pulling muscles I didn't know I had. Quit the team. Wish I could go back and get a do over.

5th-Freshman year in HS as the best dang 2nd string tight end/defensive tackle in the history of metro okc football. the bench was never the same after I left. in addition to this obviously phenomenal achievement, I also was the backup/practice team kicker for the freshman team in high school. even further, I played strong safety in TWO practices. In college, I was the starting qb for Delta Upsilon's IM team (for one game). ohhhhh yeah

The only football I would ever play was during practice for track and cross country in high school ... you know, the days where you didn't have to run more than 10 miles.

Anyway, the girls would always have the job of standing in the way of receivers or runners, because we'd never get thrown the ball by the boys  so I was a defensive back. Usually corner, because even though I couldn't catch, the back of my ponytail was very good at blocking incoming footballs :D

In 7th grade at Moore West JH, we were told that we had to choose between either football, band or choir. Being 5'2" and 185 lbs and a pretty bright student, I figured that football would kill me, so band it was. I went to every game in HS and college and just finished my 25th HS football season as band director. That's a lot of football, but I still have 10 years until my youngest son graduates from HS, so I'll be boarding those buses for at least 10 more years. Thats only another 100-120 games, Woo Hoo!

I played in grade school but quit in order to concentrate on baseball. I picked it back up my freshmen year of high school at Bentonville HS in Arkansas. I started every game at d-end and fullback for the varsity junior high team(9th is junior high in arkansas). Played only defense the rest of my high school days. We won a state championship in 2002 against El Dorado. I got a ring in baseball that year too.

Some underclassmen raided the varsity locker room and stole everyone stuff. They took a pair of shoes from me but inside the shoes were my rings. All I have now is a patch on my letter jacket!

8th grade, weighed much more and played Left Guard
9th grade, started at Left Tackle for the freshman B team
10th grade, played Left Guard on sophomore team
11th grade, Played left guard then moved to right tackle (Junior team was combined with sophomores after the Juniors were left with 18 players(people failed) Right tackle had a lot of injuries and one of the worst players ended up on second string. First play he had in practiced he got pushed back into the quarterback coach. Coaches got ****ed, OLine coach pulled me over, put me at right tackle, told me I had 5 seconds to learn right tackle(which I already knew since I memorized all the oline positions) and thats how I took a guys spot on the depth chart in 5 seconds), on offense, defensive tackle defensively for JV team
12th grade was moved back to left guard. Didn't play much, but for the second half of the season I was the back up for Texas DT Frank Okam at left guard. I also blocked Okam as a member of the scout team offense in practice everyday, so sometimes I like to joke that I helped make him as good as he is today(or at least thats what I'm gonna say when he starts playing in the NFL next year)

10th grade still playing tight end and kicking on JV
11th grade kicked 24 of 24 extra points and three field goals, 2nd string tight end and long snapper on punts
12th grade--first day of two-a-days, kickoff return drill, had my ankle stepped on by a guy who was probably 220 pounds (this was 1974, so that was big) and I was done for the season

Played intramurals at OU and had Switzer's "class" on "Fundamentals of Football"...don't know if they still offer that or not. Actually a great class, though we didn't see Barry after the first day...but did get lectures from Larry Lacewell, among others.

Coached little league football and officiated (a job I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy)

Have a nephew who sacked Troy Aikman twice in high school and a son who sacked David Carr in high school (unfortunately they were on the same team and it was a scrimmage and he didn't know he wasn't supposed to hit the guy in the red jersey...)

I played ....er practiced on the 7th grade football team. Biggest accomplishent............I learned how to wear a jock correctly.
Jumped off a wall at Falls Creek before my 8th grade and messed up my ankle so I only made it through 2 days of practice and quit.
Concentrated on basketball after that.
Major accomplishment related to football in high school........... I felt up a cheerleader under the bleachers during a football game.
Other than that, Im a terror at padding my post count in Sooner Official game threads.

I'm impressed.

Grade school in Tulsa as a RB/LB.
Jr. High in Marietta as a RB/LB.
HS in Ada as a RB. (2 camps at OU and 1 at TU)
College at East Central as a RB. Lost interest in school (not football, but when you drop all your classes they won't let you play anymore.. go figure!) and moved on to a military career.

Coached 2 years of Pop Warner in San Francisco and that was totally fun. Volunteer coached a few different years in SoCal (HS) and again back in Oklahoma (Jr H) until people got all law suit happy and I decided it wasn't worth the liability. I don't even know if volunteer coaches are still allowed.

I was a scrub DE in the 9th grade in Jr High, but started as the kicker for Midwest City my SR year. It was my athletic high point. I played saftey, and of course kicked, for my Army team 1/50 Infantry 2nd AD Fort Hood Texas in the 70's. That's all I got. It was a thrill to play at MWC though. We had Jody Farthing. He was a heck of a player at MWC and started at OU. I used to see him in OKC in the 80's and 90's and would visit with him. He was a very, very fine person, who died too soon. Leroy Selmon said he was the toughest guy he played against in College, and that was in practice. He was a true Sooner.

Three-year, 2-way starter in HS @ Guard and OLB. Played at biggest-school level in Idaho (we actually used a real football, not a potato). Played in Bronco stadium before the turf was blue. Had some interest from a few NAIA schools in the NW, but had taken a few concussions and other licks, decided best to hang it up, join a frat, and drink beer.

For those three years, however, I thought I was Jack Lambert and Mean Joe Green rolled into a 5'11" 170 lb. frame, them were the days...

Played in Broken Bow, OK peewee leagues as a z-back and corner from around 4th grade where we pretty much went undefeated up until 6th grade where I moved to a smaller school w/ no football

8th grade moved back to BB Junior High, started as tailback and cornerback, lost 1 game I think. Break my wrist in a game late in the season, but coach doesn't believe me, so I keep playing until I'm carrying the ball and a guy hits my wrist again directly w/ his helmet and I fumble. Go to hospital w/ multiple fractures.

High School - 9th grade, rotate starting tailback and cornerback for JV team, lose 1 or 2 games. Ran 5 tds in one game against I think Durant.

High School 10th grade, (I'm about 5' 8", 150 lbs at this point - small for a RB I know, but quick and very good at avoiding getting hit - well at least most of the time as you're about to see) started out 3rd string running back on the varsity team pre-season, moved up to starting position after playing a really good pre-season game against Aardmore (I think). First regular game of season (against DeKalb, TX) I get blind sighted by a DB on a bad QB option and get knocked unconscious. I come to, sit out a couple series. I tell coach I want to go back in and a few plays later our QB throws a pick. I'm the only one left to catch the guy - about to tackle him and my hip goes pop. Out the rest of the season w/ a hip pointer because coach kept pushing me too soon and I re-injured it a couple times. We end up going to quarter-finals and get to play on Owen field (and lose to Weatherford - again I think, bad memory), but it was sweet.

11 grade - back down to 3rd or 4th string tail back. I get re-injured again when some dumbass d-lineman on my team hits me w/ a stunner to the back of the head after a practice play has ended. I finally get fed up w/ all the injuries and quit the team (to the chagrin of my teammates and parents and pretty much everyone else in town - huge football town) and go exclusively to track. Go to state in track (400 meters, 400 m relay, mile relay) but don't medal. Football team ends up going semi-finals and losing.
12th grade - Win regionals in 200m, 400m, 400m relay and mile relay). Win State in the 400m relay, 4th in mile relay and 5th in 400m. Football team ends up going to State and losing to Choctaw.
Offered a few college scholarships for track, but don't take them because I always had my heart set on OU since a kid and didn't get offered one there.

End up going to OU on academic scholarship.

My football highlight was a 7 step dropback pass play where I hit BoonesFarmSooner on a streak pattern in stride right by the stingy defense...outside in the snow between Walker Tower and Adams Hall.

I'm sure you've all heard about it...the legend of the Fall of 1989.

I was out there for some of that... but what about the winter/spring of 1990 when the rains came and there were lots of games at, on, and in Cate Lake? Football in 4-6 inches of standing water was so fun, we didn't even pay attention to the fact it was maybe 50 degrees out.

Didn't play organized football except my 9th grade year. Was 5-10/110 at the time, so I spent most of my time in the defensive secondary, rotating between DB, safety, and occasionally LB (was a decent tackler and despite my weight couldn't be turtled).

My sophomore year we moved to Texas and there was no way in heck I could be on the same field with my Tongan classmates at Euless Trinity. :)

Started at QB in Collinsville, OK from 5-9th grade.
10th grade: Broke my tibia and fibula in the first game against Skiatook. Had a screw put in. Out for the season.
11th grade: Started at WR and free safety.
12th grade: Back to QB and FS. Went 9-3 and lost to Bristow 14-13 in the last minute of the game of the state quarterfinals. They had a blue chipper by the name of Ronbrose Jones who ended up going to OU on a scholly, was on the 2000 NC team and then quit. Was All Conference, 3A All Star by Class, and Hon. Men. All-State for QB. Rushed for 1,000 and passed for 1,000. Actually got visited by Jackie Shipp at my high school and he invited me to walk on. :( Got offered to play for the Air Force Acadamy but didn't want to make the 7 year military committment. I went and played QB and FS at Snow College(home of Josh Heupel before his OU days) in the fall of 2000 and spring of 2001 and then hung up the cleats.
Now I play some mean flag football on the weekends....I actually tore my ACL and MCL playing in a flag football game last Thanksgiving! Once again surgery and lots of rehab.

Played WR/CB at Broken Arrow HS 9th-11th grades. Quit before my Sr. year after I figured it was a waste of time.

When did you play at B.A.?
That's where I'm from, I played a little football.

-Played a year of flag in 2nd or 3rd grade. Played WR.

-Freshman year (South Intermediate) played a little WR and CB.

-Came back to football in my Junior offseason at BAHS after I had grown a little (I was finally 5'9 and 143 lbs.,haha) I didn't want to regret not playing in high school since you only get 1 chance to do it. I worked my azz off, and was always out there as a scout team WR, giving good looks and getting bashed around! But it was a great time. So my Senior year (practiced WR and CB) The few games I played in I was at WR.

-Then I played college intramural ball at RSU in Claremore. We were the "Beaver Packers" :D Those were some fun times and my team was awesome, so we dominated almost each game we played (that's right, I just bragged about dominating intramural athletics :O ).

Nowadays I'm about 5'10 210 lbs, only football I ever play is my NCAA PS2 game and occasionally a backyard football game with friends, but it's been a while since that's even happened.

I do want to get into coaching soon in the BA youth system. I may wait til my son gets older before I can do that though.

This one time, in band camp... or when I was living in VA we played a game of two-below on the lawn of the state capitol. I broke my right hand trying to make a touchdown saving tackle(fail/fial), got up and played QB after the kick-off and threw a TD pass on a cross over the middle before my hand swelled up so bad I couldn't grip the ball any longer.

When I moved back to Norman I played for the OU Rugby Club for about two seasons. Man... Tarzan and those boys sure can party! Sevens anyone?

Wishbone quarterback from 7th grade to 10th grade in Claremore, then ran side-saddle T formation in Kansas in the mid 70's. That was an old formation from the leather helmet days I believe.

oo..my era!

Didn't play till a junior in highschool ( in montana..class "A" second largest and yet we still didn't have enough players out for 2 platoons) The coach called my parents and begged them to let me play ( I was an 800 runner.. ( yes..yards not meters) and won regionals as a soph)
So played tight end at 145 lbs... leading reciever that year with about 20 catches for an avg of maybe 4 yards a catch.. think tebow jump pass ( our specialty) also safety and punter. obviously we played both ways the entire game. Played for the state championship but lost to a school twice our size..but that's ok.. made me realize how I would NOT be playing in college. Do regret not trying out just as a kicker tho.

6th-8th grade: Whittier middle school Norman ,OK
Played DB and QB, also played with/against future OU players and coach. Todd Smith, Tom Haley, Chuck Long, Travis Simpson and Scooter Proctor (coach Proctors son).
9th-12th grade: Brighton High School Brighton,CO.
Played safety,QB and tight end. Senior season we went to state playoffs for first time in 27 yrs. Head coach was former Broncos and Raiders DB JR McCmillin.
Had offers to play NAIA ball as safety but didnt want to end up @ NM Highlands or Bethany ,KS. Went to school @ OU and graduated in 88.
Was 6-2, 200 as freshman at OU and was considering walking on at safety but my 4.75 40 speed was not quite fast enough.

HS junior & senior year bench warmer at guard. Our QB was looked at by several big name schools including OU. While the coach was there he watched the whole practice. In the band in HS, but it was in Florida, so I saw the real football players play (at least that's what I heard from the media all the time). We also played a bunch of football after band practice.

Oh yea, saw the sooners kick Nebraska in the Orange Bowl a couple of times in the 70s (Grandpa lived in Linclon, so we left dissapointed - but now that I have seen the light it's something to brag about).

Played some Football in 7th grade in Norman. Moved to Elkins Ar. going into the 9th grade. Started my freshman year at Db and center played offense and defense. Senior high team only had 12 players but they were good my freshman year coach felt I showed promise and I got to play with the varsity the last 4 games of the season. Game of note my freshman year was I started at safety in the place of our star player while he went for a Natonal record in rushing as a RB, He ran for 602 yards in that game and set the natonal record which he held for 20 years. His name was John Bunch google it to confirm if you like.

Sophmore year I played Center and DE. I was honorable mention all conference that year at DE.

Junior year started at guard and MLB. Broke my leg 7 games into the season but I still finished the year leading the team in tackles and was an All conference LB.

Senior year I started at guard and MLB help lead tiny Elkins to the state playoffs for the first time and beat Farmington for our 1st time. We got beat by eventual state champs Harding Academy and I was selected as an all-state Guard and all conferene LB.

Had a scholarship to play for Henderson State university to play FB but met my wife and was mesmerized with her ways and didn't go best decision of my life hehehehe.
