So, I got an e-mail just now from one of my professors. He invited a group of his students out to his ranch on Friday to go hiking. Apparently, he has a significant amount of property outside of Waco and evidently there is stuff to see.

I guess I'll go, but I've never been hiking before. I'll need to go to the sporting good store and buy some hiking equipment though for the life of me, I don't know what that is.

One can't just go from a bridesmaid to a hiker over night. It is a process that takes time. You may want to sit this one out.

I can't sit this one out as it's likely to be the only "one."

It's do or die time for me.

His last name isn't "Koresh," is it?

This was in the e-mail:

We will gather at 4:00 at the little red barn shown on the enclosed map, and the hike will take about an hour. We will see caves, hills, valleys, and probably a few critters.

I don't like the sound of "critters" -- I thought I was going hiking not a G-D safari.

If you show up and "everybody else" in the "group" has "canceled", just get back your Miata and drive away. On second thought...is this a class you really want to get an A in?

So that's what he calls it.

Mods, is there a way to automatically 5-star any thread that SicEm starts?

Waco critters aren't so bad. Unless their first name is "Judge".

Don't go near their mamas....

Birkenstocks. If you're gonna go hiking, you'll need Birkenstocks.

I've heard that it's best to go hiking in a fashionable lederhosen.

I'm not know what that is.
I had a class a couple of years ago and for whatever the reason the prof. mentions beef jerky. Well, of course, I knew what the hell it was but everyone in the class gave him a very puzzled look. He explained what it was and said, "you can sometimes buy this stuff at a gas station..." The puzzled looks continued and he seemed amazed himself so he asked everyone to raise their hand who had tried or at least heard of beef jerky. I and like 2-3 other people raised their hand in a class of 50-75 students.

No joke.

Remember to tell them every 1/2 hour you need to stop for a cigar break.

They like that kind of thing.

Sicem, are you sure you're from Oklahoma? No offense but let's run down some of your threads that make me wonder:

getting lost going to Houston (opposite direction lost, too)
not knowing how to change a tire
purchasing a Miata
never been hiking

The fact that you've had beef jerky helps your case, but I'm not so sure if it's not a cover. You sound like your from Connecticut or some place like that.

SicEmBaylor

Why do you hate Connecticut?
Because it's a G-D yankee state!

And yes I'm from Oklahoma, but I was born in Florida if that helps explain things.
