That's actually a pretty decent hire for Baylor.

Briles is 34-28 as Houston's head coach. Is this really a good hire for Baylor?

I'm underwhelmed.
Still. His average is above .500 which would be a hell of an improvement.

any winning record at Houston would be a good hire.

is it a risk? sure....but then again, it is just as much a risk for Briles, which makes it a good fit.

the defensive coordinator's jobs in the big 12 tough jobs, just got a little bit tougher

Wouldn't you have a better chance of winning at Houston because they are in a lesser conference? (Conference USA or whatever it is)

Yes, Houston a few years ago was at one point worse than Rice. He got them competitive in C-USA winning it with a 10-4 record last season. A former Texas high school coach with a bunch of connections. He isn't going to beat out the big boys for players but he stands a good chance of getting good players that might consider other schools. He was head coach at Stephenville before going to Tech as an assistant under Leach. I am sure that Baylor offers more money.

sure,
but the last HC at BU didnt have that great an OOC record, especially when you take out the D1AA wins he had. below .500 there is as well.

I think it is a great hire for Baylor, not so much for Briles.....I think he would have been better for aTm than Sherman.

Boy, I would take 1.8 m a year to coach at a proven loser anytime. You've got no place to go, but up!

IF he took the Baylor job, he may have jumped too soon if Leach goes to the Hogs.

I hope we hired Briles -- not because I think Briles is a great hire but if he's our 3rd choice then I really hate to see who's below him.

I think he is a good hire. I like the fact that he is well-connected with Texas HS coaches and can hopefully recruit competitive talent. I like the fact that his offenses are described as "imaginative". He needs to bring on board a strong DC and maybe Baylor can compete.

Art Briles has NOT been hired by Baylor.

The information that was released was false.

1560 in Houston just confirmed that he has not agreed to the position and there will not be an announcement today. The other stations are wrong.

Sorry Sic, maybe tomorrow.

Todd Dodge? I hear he runs a very complex, high-flying aerial attack that is sure to put quite a scare into the elite teams in the conference.

Our board is buzzing that 4 star QB, Robert Griffin, who has been committed to Houston will switch his commitment to Baylor.

His mother will supposedly be at the press conference at 5:30. I sure hope to hell this is true. We desperately need a QB.

No, but we've got a series with Notre Dame coming up and that's pretty close to UNT.

I think it sounds like a very good hire for Baylor.

I don't exactly understand why someone would trade UH for Baylor, but I suppose the facilities in Waco are nicer. And UH quit using the Dome as their home stadium long ago.

He's definitely in for a different level of competition on the field and on the recruiting trail. we'll see how he fares... I've always thought he was a good coach, so I expect good things.

How long will the admins give him, do you think? I think in 3 to 4 years he could turn the Bears into a formidable opponent.

Congrats on the nice hire, SicEm
