how hard do the Hawkeyes come after Stoops and does he listen ???

He did play there.

I think the 3 mil bonus keeps him around thru next season, maybe OU should renew it for another 3 mil. if he stays another 3 or 4 years.

Stoops makes enough money and OU is ten times the job Iowa is.

'Nuff said.

Yeah, this thread makes perfect sense. Stoops has now spent more time in Norman than in friggin Iowa.

Let's throw some more $ at him to keep him from going to a lesser job. Please lock this down.

There are few schools in the country that are the pinnacle of Stoops' chosen profession. Oklahoma is one of those schools. Iowa is not.

Until Stoops gets bored with OU, he's not leaving. And he doesn't look very bored to me.

Dean says its 70-50 he stays, with or without a bonus!

Oklahoma is like IA without as much corn....but with a football team that is 100X better tradition and recruiting base.

Iowa was after Bob before OU hired him.He could have had the IOWA job back in '99 if he had wanted it.He chose OU instead because we have the resources, facilities, tradition to win championships.Since he has us in contention for CCs and NCs virtually every year why would he take a step down?

Beats me.

and does he listen ???

No.

He did play there.

So?

Why do people think that every coach's dream job is his alma mater?

That's like asking if Pete Carroll is going to leave USC for Pacific's opening (cuz, ya know, he did play there).

That would certainly seem to be against the trend. None of our great coaches have been OU alumni. Hayden Fry was a Baylor grad. Kirk Ferentz went to UConn. Joe Paterno went to Brown. Bobby Bowden went to Bama/Howard.

Only a handful of great coaches went back to their alma mater to coach, most notably Paul 'Bear' Bryant and his return to Bama.

Recently, Ralph Friedgen and Frank Beamer have returned to their alma maters with some degree of success.

Exactly.

Did Royal jump back to OU after Bud left?

Did Bud ever jump ship for Minn when that job opened in 50 or 53?

Did Barry go back to Arky?

Very few ever go back. And actually the bond seems to be much much stronger for a coach of a school than a player. Just look where Barry and Royal hang out currently.

Tell that to Arky, they claim that since JJ and Butch Davis are former residents that is the reason they will come BACK to the hogs.
