Darn it. This is like that Charlie Brown (or was it Calvin) where he sees the first robin of spring, or so he thinks, then brags to Lucy (or was it Suzie Derkins), who shoots him down hard, then he pouts and Linus (or was it Hobbes) comes in and says, Hey, cheer up, did I tell you I saw a robin yesterday?

OU/TX a few years ago:

In a packed Humperdink's on Friday night consuming beverages and listening to the Sports Animal and Boomer Sooner with about a dozen of my "regulars"...all of a sudden my brother starts humming the BC Clark jingle and you can guess what happens next. About 150 people all join in a loud, drunken rendition of that Christmas favorite!

For some reason, I tie in that commercial in my mind with the annual airing of Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer, starting from when I was in grade school and there was only channels 4, 5, 9 and 13 available on our antennie.

Great thread.

OTASCO was right next to TG&Y!!
That's where my StingRay came from...er, I mean Santa.

Ok, I know it isn't a StingRay, but I like the pic....

i know people my age i grew up with who still refer to the Hobby Lobby on Main (in Norman) as "the Big TG&Y"...as opposed to the regular one on Lindsey and McGee.

why do people like this jingle so much? is it just because you've heard it for so long? Because seriously, I heard it yesterday and lunged for the mute button.

For me, it's just part & parcel of the constancy and fond memories of Christmas at home in Oklahoma. There's a certain amount of comfort to be found in the littlest of things, especially at this time of year. The B.C. Clark jingle is catchy and fun for most of us, and we have heard it, every year without fail, for most or all of our lives. It might be silly to some, and that's fine. But for those of us who smile each time we hear it...we'll enjoy the small blessings whenever they present themselves.

Anybody remember "A John A. Brown Christmas..In Oklahoma...A John A. Brown Christmas..."?

soonerbrat

ditto to what that guy said about the jingle

When I lived in Oklahoma, I hated this song. When I moved away, I found myself kinda missing it. Now that I've been away for 5 years, I don't miss it at all. When I go back to OK for christmas, I'll probably change the channel when I hear it for the first time.
