I've seen a lot of people on this site completely in the dark about Big XII tiebreakers. So, I decided to start this thread.

http://www.big12sports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/tie-breaker.html

(a) If two teams are tied, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative;

(b) If three or more teams are tied, steps 1 through 7 will be followed until a determination is made. If only two teams remain tied after any step, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.

1. The records of the three teams will be compared against each other;
2. The records of the three teams will be compared within their division;
3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of finish - 4, 5 and 6;
4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents;
5. The highest ranked team in the first Bowl Championship Series Poll following the completion of Big 12 regular-season (intra-) conference play shall be the representative;
6. The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding exempted games - e.g. 12th games such as Kickoff Classic, Pigskin Classic, Hawaii, etc.] shall be the representative;
7. The representative will be chosen by draw.

IF OU AND UT WIN: OU wins South based on head-to-head tiebreaker.

IF OU AND UT LOSE: UT wins South based on winning three-way tie between OU, OSU, and UT. Three-way tie is first broken because OU lost to Texas Tech, who has clinched 4th. OSU and UT both beat Tech. Head-to-head is then broken through UT's win over OSU.

IF OU LOSES AND UT WINS: UT wins South based on conference record.

IF OU WINS AND UT LOSES: OU wins South based on conference record.

Beat OSU we don't have to worry about it!

Not according to the Big XII press release:

Tiebreak
In the South Division, Oklahoma advances if it beats Oklahoma State.
Texas can reach the championship game with a win over Texas A&M
coupled with an OU loss.

If OSU beats OU and Texas loses to Texas A&M, all three are 5-3 in
the conference. The fi rst tiebreak is head-to-head, and OU, OSU and
UT are 1-1 against each other. The second tiebreak is record against
teams from within the division with all three posting identical 3-2 records
against South Division foes.

The next tiebreak would be the teams’ records against the fourth-place
team in the division, where Texas Tech and Texas A&M would be tied at
4-4 and 3-2 in the division.

OU, UT and OSU are all 1-1 against Tech and A&M. Baylor occupies
the next and fi nal place in the South Division standings and all three
teams beat Baylor.

The next tiebreak is common opponents from the other division. Since
OU, OSU and UT have no common opponents from the North, the next
step in the Big 12 tiebreak procedure is to break the tie using the BCS
Standings. The South Division representative would be the highest
ranked team in the BCS Standings following completion of the regular-
season (for the 2007 season this would be the November 25 BCS
Standings).

I saw a Big 12 Official quoted on another site with a different conclusion.

The problem is that Tech is not 4th. A&M and Tech would tie for 4th, and the conference does not break ties except for 1st place. Therefore, the tie breaker would fall all the way to the BCS ranking. I'll see if I can dig up the link to the quote.

EDIT: kevpks beat me to it.

These tiebreakers get pretty ridiculous. We should make it simple and beat the crap out of OSU.

aggie logic: OSU wins because they're even mentioned!

They would probably make rings and hang a banner as South co-champions.
