some folks in SE OK drill on air until the kick off point. The one well I did near Little Rock, AR did. I know one company in N TX that keeps trying to get it to work for them there but haven't had much luck with it.

I didnt know it was possible. We do a **** ton of it. I feel for the mud logger though. Cuttings are basically powder.

I know what ya mean . Mud is nasty . But fun sometimes ;)

Back in the 70's-80's we used air rigs, at times.

You can still log the cuttings - not that small. But, if you expect to hit any highly transmissive water bearing zones, the water can have a detrimental effect on the ability to drill (actually, air-hammer), you will have problems. Although, some water is used in drilling, too much will halt the progress.

Also, as you know, if you expect any moderately - high pressure gas zones, don't use an air rig.

I have also had issues with getting logging tools getting hung up in the hole....

At least that is what I recall.

They do, and get hella flares from what I am told and read. Seems to be not that big of thing to them til if they log image. :texan: I'm still learning the actual drilling side though. I may not be 100% correct.

never been on an air rig, and I dont think I want to. I heard it is tough to sleep on location
