I'm gonna hijack the thread. Considering both these fine institutions were forced to accept wommenfolk, and you TUSooner are wise in the ways of the judges, how could a special middle school just for girls - "leadership academy" - possibly be legal without an equivalent for boys?

Sheesh. I hate getting worked-up, and generally avoid this discussion, but...

Ask Justice Ginsburg. She drove the stake into the heart of single-gender public colleges in America. The opinion she wrote states, in so many words, even if there was only woman who wanted to attend such an institution, they have to let her in. She completely dismissed the arguments hailing the advantages of single gender higher education.

My sense is she wouldn't have a problem with single gender public education, as long as that gender was female. See, it's only a "problem" if women are trying to break down historic barriers. OTOH, if some male wants to be attend an all-girl leadership academy, he would denied admission, because he is not "held back" by any historic barrier.

The tragedy is, the schools have been forever, and IMHO, irreparably changed. At last count, my alma mater has 130 women, out of a total enrollment of 2000. That's about 6%.

A very high price to pay for so few women to avail themselves of a system that changed forever the day the first one walked thru the gate.
