One of our problems in this game is that our best player doesn't know how to handle the double teams they're throwing at him.

But overall, we need somebody who can create their own shot when things break down. It doesn't matter what position that comes from.

I like L2s energy but he's in bad position on offense, leading to awkward shots and misses that he should probably make. Bad angles.

It's helped that DICKIE V BABY!!!!! has a bad throat. He is kinda worth listening to since we're not playing Duke or NC.

I'd say we're going to be competitive against most teams. Memphis is one of the most athletic teams in the nation with a guard who would be in the NBA if the age limit hadn't been imposed.

Plus, Capel's team is still made up of lots of new players. Going to take some time. Our best player is a first year freshman playing his first D1 road game ever.

Things will improve.

I still think L2 should be starting. Blake will be great one day but he still needs to grow and work on his game. Godbold did a lot of whiffing and he shows no confidence. I think Leary is going to be good but Taylor seems to have gone into hiding.

Coach did a good job of keeping them into the game and not giving up. We put a good scare in those Tigers.

This is going to be a fun group to watch for the rest of the season and next couple of years. We may be a couple of players short of what we need to be a really good team but this team is going to be much improved from last year. I was really impressed that they made a game out of it. Memphis will probably be a Final Four team. I think we made them look a lot worse than they really are on offense and Memphis really gets after you on defense. Nice game by the Sooners! Look forward to the rest of the season and beyond!

I was encouraged by what I saw out of this OU team. I think we are much better than last year. To play a team like memphis that close away from home with several new guys on the floor is a good sign. I'm not taking a moral victory or anything but our team is nowhere close to it's potential this early in the season. Memphis is, at worst, the second best team we face all season. Blake Griffin is a monster who will only get better as the season progresses. He's the kind of player who will push the other guys to play better. I predict we make the NCAA tourney

11/16/2007, 09:16 AM
Memphis looked confused all night. I don't know if that was our defense, or Memphis not getting up for this game. Either way, I don't think Memphis is one of the best just from talent and speed. They're really good, but I don't think they'll end up at the top of the mountain like everyone thinks.

Then again, maybe we're just better than we think. :)

Rock Hard Corn Frog
11/16/2007, 11:15 AM
I was channel flipping back and forth between the hoops game and the Oreg-Zona game but from what I saw from the hoops team I was pretty pleased.

For one thing playing a team like Memphis early in the year is tough because as a general rule teams that play up tempo and try to force turnovers tend to have more success earlier in the year due to teams not taking care of the ball as well. We actually gave Memphis a decent game last year but if you remember last year we also were flat out terrible early in the year turning the ball over. There were some last night but not so much. 19 turnovers isn't great but it is probably better than average this time of the year. If anything we made the game competitive despite being 4-15 from 3-point range.

Curious as to why Cade Davis didn't play. Injury, or is he just the 9th man in the rotation right now?

Physically we matched up pretty well with Memphis as well. Dorsey is probably one of the 3-4 most physical inside players in the country and while he had a pretty big game we held our own pretty well. Rose and Douglas-Roberts are both future NBA players.

To quote Calipari:

"Oklahoma played so well, physical," Memphis coach John Calipari said. "We had chances to spread it out and get that lead to where it's ballgame, and they never really let us get to that."

I'm not saying that I think we look like a top 25 team yet but we are defintiely a more athletic and physical team than last year. I think we could be an NCAA tourney team this year.

Omg, Blake Griffin is so awesome. He must have had like 30 rebounds last night!

Keon Clark really is a "moose." :D He is a big dorky player like Kevin Bookout!

Taylor Griffin complements his bro well... I hope he doesn't get too envious, though.

Longar Longar had stints of greatness. He really has blossomed under Capel.

Austin really needs to shave his eyebrows and stop turning over the ball

David Godbold needs to not take bonehead shots.

Everyone needs to take a chance on a shot when they are wide open instead of find someone else to pass the ball to

I miss shots of Kellen Sampson and Ott (cutie!) on the bench cheering on the team!
