Based on a novel by Philip Pullman, The Golden Compass is a promotion of atheism...it's geared toward children...you can read about it on snopes:

YEah, I've already been getting e-mails on it.

I saw the preview at one movie and thought, "eh, looks like kind of a crappy Narnia". That was before I knew about any of the athiest stuff.

I hadn't heard about this movie or the intended message. I was reading the snopes link and thought this was an interesting quote from the author

My books are about killing God

I posted this a few years ago:

They are basically Pullman's attempt at an anti-Narnia. The first book isn't all that offensive, but by the third his attempt is as plain as day, and could be somewhat disturbing to young kids. It's not like children will become atheists by watching them, of course - but as a parent you should be aware of the darker purpose behind this admittedly cool and seemingly innocent series.

I'll let my oldest see it if he wants, but not my younger two.

No thanks, I'll wait for Prince Caspian in May '08.......Pullman's a C.S. Lewis wannabe in a perverted sort of way.
