Yesterday on PTI, Wilbon said the Big XII was the SECOND toughest conference this year, behind the Pac-10!

Wish I got paid to say stoopid stuff.

Oh wait....I do.

Yeah, good call on A&M, K State, OSU, Nebraska and Tech. Other than those, you're spot on.

Since you listed 2/3 of the conference, it would be a good guess that a couple of them would be fairly good.

All those teams I listed are pretty good teams......except for Nebraska.

I did say the conference would be back and I called Kansas. Although I didn't think Kansas would be this good.

OSU has a chance to go .500 if they beat Baylor. That is a good year for OSU.

Pretty good teams don't go .500 or one game over.

How bout, OSU is the most exciting team in the WORLD.. They can score fast and get scored on faster.

Why is a 7-4 Texas Tech team getting considered "bad"??
Actually, Texas Tech is probably the most consistent team in the Conference.
They have not had a losing season since 1992. The ONLY Big 12 team to never have one since the conference was made.

They have also won 8 or more games each of the last 5 seasons. I can only think of two other teams in the conference that can say that. Us and Saxet.

Only 1/3 of the conference in the top 10.* Pretty thin gruel.

Four teams in the top 15...no others even sniffing the top 25. So we have some great teams at the top but no depth.

This year, the Big XII especially seems to be a conference of the elite (OU, Mizzou, Kansas, Tex.), the decent (Tech), the near-good (A & M, Kansas State, OSEwe, Colorado) and the needs-work (Baylor, ISU, Nebraska).

But I'd argue that there is more parity in there than most football pundits acknowledge. You can break down any conference into similar groupings. Out of conference play has really hurt our perception the past couple of seasons and Big XII performance in BCS bowls since 2001 has not been real sterling. We won the Rose Bowl and Texas won a couple of them...and that's about it.

Next season should be even better. Our ooc schedule could be real interesting with Cincy and Washington.

That describes every top conference year in and year out.

A&M, TT, Nebraska, and K-State have all been ranked at some point this season.

I meant at this point in time, this late in the season. Being ranked earlier doesn't mean much. Look at Louisville and USF.

Absolutely true.

But looking at the conference top-to-bottom, I see 4 really good teams (OU, KU, Mizzou, and UT), six teams capable of winning on any given weekend (TT, A&M, KSU, OSU, Colorado, and Nebraska*), one team coming to life under a new coach (ISU), and one perennial lost cause. That is not a bad football conference, and matches or exceeds the quality of other conferences.

*I'm not kidding. They won on the road against a quality Wake Forest team whose only other losses have been to currently ranked Clemson, UVA, and BC, and they just put a whoopin' on a KSU team that was capable of beating UT in Austin.

sanantoniosooner
11/13/2007, 07:21 PM
KSU needed a punt return, kickoff return, and interception return to win that game against UT. The horns had never given up all three of those in the same season before let alone a single game.

KSU sucks.

UT gives up all three of those in one game and it's only KSU that sucks?

UT wasn't the topic.

IMO UT is over rated right now and not as good as their record.

I think you may be right about UT. But a win is a win. OU's win over Iowa State wasn't pretty, but it sure looks good in that W column.
