Coolbaugh's death prompts MLB to adopt helmets for base coaches (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3100278)

I have a question. Will this be required for high school and college coaches?

What makes this decision look stupid is that the blues are not required to wear a helmet. I could eventually get over the fact that coaches are wearing helmets on in the boxes, but the umps are on the field of play.

This is stupid. How many deaths can be attributed to coaches not wearing helmets in over 100 years of baseball? Typical going overboard in our pansy, wansy, nanny-state world these days.

It is an overreaction...move the batting box( encarnacion) and the coaches box back further. The coaches dont need to be that close until the ball is in play and the batter on deck doesnt need to be that close regardless. Look how much closer pitchers are, are they going to start making them wear helmets?
